CodeMonkeyGG Its 10/10/10. Guess what special event that is? That's right, you only need to use '1' and '0' in writing the date. And THAT'S ALL.

So let's get back to game making!

I don't think that should have anything to do with this.
I dont think that they will twit something like that.
Personally, I don't think that twitter is the proper channel to say that there will not be an update
the right channel, if there is any, should be GS forum.
Otherwise, it would show lack of consideration for this so call community...
Its already too bad the feeling of being left out of what was discussed in that meeting for not being able to attend, but not to communicate something in your community to do it somewhere else. That would be ...

Am I missing something? I don't see that update...

He removed the quote off his twitter for some reason

Im guessing that it gave away too much, or maybe he made a mistake and the update actually is today? :)

There was a more direct one as well clearly saying that the update is not today

I took it down because y'all are reading too much into it.

can we have a rough eta please.
  • expired_012expired_012 Member Posts: 1,802
I don't understand why you guys can't just directly tell us when the new update is? Why is this so private?

    I really don't understand.......
  • iDeveloperiDeveloper Member Posts: 441
    @Rob2:

I agree. At least a rough ETA. Doesn't have to be "will be released on <insert date>". More like "may be released in <# of weeks>"

    Thanks.

Alright guys, srsly cool down, The update is coming, probably this week, Monday, tuesday or wednesday is my guess. COOL IT!
  • LordTarantorLordTarantor Member, PRO Posts: 890
Ok let me try to rephrase that...
twitter is not a wrong place to announce that. But announce that on twitter and not here, that is what I believe is wrong.
But like I said and CodeMonkey confirmed, that was about something else and has nothing to do with the update.

For the rest of us: they did the update already... they updated their homepage.
    There you have your update...
    Move on...
    Create more games...
If they make an update for us in the future, enjoy it, but until then
    Continue with your life...

This may be me stating the obvious, but based on that twitter quote it seems like people were getting the impression that 1.0 might be released on 10/10/10, maybe even at 10:10pm?

I don't twitter or tweet...I wont make the joke about things with bird brains...
    announcing publicly is nice...

but think announcing to those who have paid and will pay again is nicer...
    y'all got our email addresses!

what could we read?...except you are serving-up PB & J...along with the Salad?

Maybe they are selling GameSalad to a company that knows how to:

    1) Develop and release software on time
    2) Provide customer support

    That would be cool :)

No release date is a good thing. We get as soon as they are finished.

    Who announces electronic updates?

I get annoyed when my wife asks when I will get my game finished.

Every major software company not only announces a timeframe, they have way more updates than these guys. I bet the GS code is a pile of spaghetti... It just seems very amateur and silly to me, especially when the competition is kicking your ass :)

Considering they never mentioned a specific time frame, #1 is not applicable. 0.8.9 is functional, albeit full of bugs and very much worthy of its "beta" status, but games can currently be published with this engine's version.

As for #2, providing customer support is something that they have acknowledged as a work in progress. If you recall, they were recently infused with quite a chunk of investment money. That can greatly affect the company's and product's direction.

And looking at the updates on their company page, they are hiring for a bunch of much-needed positions - nothing frivolous. They need people to be tossed right in the middle of the mix (pun intended).

Add the fact that there are many qualified users here who have been designated as Sous-Chefs and Line Cooks. We have been tasked to delve deeper into the inner workings of the GameSalad engine and provide feedback and assistance in the further development of the engine, as well as maintain the forum and help the rest of the community as best as we can.

#1 is applicable. It's been what, three months since the code was updated? That is simply crazy when the competition is kicking your ass. It is VERY poor customer support and also shows a lack of interest when you have a huge gap between updates. Remember, this is still BETA software.

Hell, even open source BETA apps get more updates than GS, want an example, look at Blender 2.5 (~six weeks a new release)! If GS was not BETA, it would be a different story (six month updates expected).

Very lame way to treat your customers, and that is coming from someone who worked for the largest developers in the world, not just a whining user :)

I love GameSalad but I 1,000% agree with TymeMaster

I think you also need to realize that this beta software that we all are using is being used to immediately produce actual products that are sold as retail and mass distributed to the public. If I was GameSalad, and my code was relied on by several hundred developers who are further relied on by millions of users worldwide, I would make sure that my code was up to snuff, and not haphazardly toss out incremental betas that would otherwise ultimately crash millions of devices.

You are more than welcome to try all the alternative game development kits. I actually own several of them now, from GameSalad to Game Editor to Torque 2D to Corona, among the other Xcode libraries. I've been on all the boards and the range of support can vary. But, if I'm still here as well as many of the other users and Sous-Chefs, that does count for something.

And we're just getting started. Look at the cash infusion, look at the new people coming onto the scene and to further enhance the engine, look at the Macworld ad, and look what will be coming right around the corner.

you went to the new york meet-up right?
  • TymeMasterTymeMaster Member Posts: 527
We will have to agree to disagree then, I do not see faster updates as haphazardly throwing things out there, a competent developer knows the boundry. I mean come on, you guys have been waiting what, 1.5 years for pause? It's unheard of to be this slow. Forget partying, these guys need to be working 7 days a week to get in features that the lack of will cause them to be destroyed.

since i started this thread can I request it be closed? It's kinda gotten off track from it's original purpose, which was to stop people from asking where today's update was!

You must remember they were just givin 1,000,000 bucks by new investors. That was 3 months ago. It would make sence that the investors gave them a NDA. So maybe they can not say anything tell everything is set up. Hence the long wait and lack of update. If you remember we had an update every month befor that.

I'm sure this will all be clear as soon as they can.

As for competition kicking there ass. Well gamesalad has no competition. They are the only engine for no code around.

One million bucks is not really a lot of money, so I don't buy that excuse either. One game I worked on had a 14 million dollar budget (and this was 11 years ago lol).

GameSalad will soon have the mother of competition, Game Maker.
  • TymeMasterTymeMaster Member Posts: 527
Also keep in mind that right now its completely unusable for publishing! You cannot publish to the iPhone as a new user when you can't pay the 99 bucks.

This is one time I hope your right. Because when game maker gets here it will force gamesalad to step up there game to keep ahead of the pack. This is good news for us.

    I agree completely :)
