A few questions about registering as a developer.

So I've finally taking the leap after 1 year and am signing up to the apple developer program [after suddenly realising it now only costs £59 to publish a game].

Just wondering how long it takes until I can submit games? Does it take a while to process my developer application? Is it the same for testing games on my device?

And how vital is it to read all 37 pages of the agreement? Yes, this is my first time signing up for something like this so any help is much appreciated!

Also, I think I mentioned that I am a student. Is there any difference?

Thanks

After you sign the agreement, it takes awhile (apple says up to 24 hours, but I got mine in 1 or 2) for your certificate number to come back. Then, you have to go through a really tedious and lengthy process of registering the devices you test on, etc. It isn't a quick process at all. The tutorials in the help area really did steer me in the right direction.

Thanks, I'm assuming I don't have to register devices immediately, as I don't have mine with me. [left it somewhere and had to get it posted back, now reception at my UNI is never open when it says it is :@]. If it takes 24 hours I may as well go ahead with it now then.

If I remember correctly, yes you do have to register at least one device at the time of registration.

Do I need the device on me at the time? Do I have to connect it to the computer? I don't have a clue how this works so thanks!

you'll need to provide your UUID number from the device, which can be found by attaching it to iTunes

Thanks a lot. Guess I'll just pay for it now and wait until tomorrow then.

So... apparently I've gone wrong already. I received the activation email saying "To complete your purchase and access your Apple Developer Program benefits, please click on the activation code below.". Which i did and I get this: "We are unable to activate your Apple Developer Program membership because we are unable to successfully verify your identity". :/

Any ideas as to what this might mean? Might I just have entered incorrect information somewhere? [which I'm sure I didn't.]

The credit card you pay with HAS to have your name on it, otherwise the request a notarized copy of your id which isnt even legal depending on where you are. I live in New Jersey and its not legal here to notarize a id. So i had to get a checking account with a atm card.

The card that I used to sign up has the initials for my first and middle name followed by my entire surname. I guess this may be where I went wrong as I think I only entered the initials rather than my full first name when it told me to enter it exactly as it were on the card. I did however use my full name when it didn't. Thanks for the reply.

yes your name for your dev account must be EXACTLY how it is on the card.

It is exactly how it is on the card, just on my card it isn't my full name. For example if my name were 'David Adam Thomas' it appears as 'D A THOMAS' . I entered it as 'D A THOMAS', would this matter?

I've contacted Apple as they told me to so hopefully I'll get a reply soonish and can get going in the not so far future. Thanks

Whatever name is on your monthly statement has to be the name you use.

Ok, so I've managed to sort it all out. I now have everything set up to loads my game in the GS viewer on my device. However, once I click Preview on iPhone, when connecting to device, I get stuck on compressing game assets! I've once made it to Loading Game but it got stuck there! Any help?

    Thanks

EDIT: maybe it just needed some warming up! :D it worked after 20 or so tries :\ I didn't change anything..

Ok, so it seems like it works when it wants to. I often loose the preview on device option next to the normal preview button as well so I have to save and quit.

The losing it is probably that you need to open the Gamesalad file while the viewer is already running to make it work.

Wait how much does it cost to submit a game to the appstore? not including the developers account

Yep, done that. I'm even having to close and reopen GS to find it again. :/
