I'm ready to start beta testing Word Snap, a tile word game for young kids. My son enjoys it, but you don't have to have kids to help test it. ;)

If you're interested, send me a PM or use this TestFlight link: http://tflig.ht/UAp0sl. Please make sure you are using an iPad as the game is not yet sized for an iPhone/iPod.

Thanks in advance! The video below is not the final trailer but rather just a peak at the gameplay (no audio):

FYI, here's the long description for the game:

Is your child learning to read? Does your child enjoy sounding out words? Do your students need practice working with consonant digraphs, blend onsets, and rime chunks? If so, Word Snap is here to help!

Word Snap offers a unique experience for children to engage in a fun and non-pressured learning environment that focuses on giving them practice in basic skills with a gradual increase in difficulty.

Word Snap was designed by teachers and tested by students to ensure academic standards and interest level.

Word Snap relies on tried-and-true educational resources for student development of early language skills:
• Built-in dictionary of primary level words from published Word Families lists
• Over 375 unique words for students to build using intuitive touch controls to position letter tiles
• More than 28 phonograms are presented for practice
• 4 levels of difficulty and 100 rounds provide students with continuous reinforcement of concepts

And it's not just academic… it's fun, too!
• "Word pal” animals cheer on students and offer tips
• Star system rewards students who find all correct words in a round
• Students win medals for correct word streaks

Designed for all students, including those with learning disabilities:
• Built-in tutorial helps students understand the goals and mechanics of the game
• Ability to skip rounds and return to them later
• Word Pal Wisdom lets students take a break to learn and review words
• Menu buttons include pictographic icons
• Low level of distractions (limited animations, solid color background, etc.)
• Option to disable sounds
• Option to disable "Word pals"

Plus, parents and teachers can take advantage of the back-end Teacher Area:
• Individual accounts for each student
• Detailed statistical tracking of student progress
• List of areas of difficulty
• Student progress is automatically saved after each word guess
• Password-protected access keeps information private

I need to add your UDID (http://whatsmyudid.com) to the provisioning profile. You can send it to me or I think I can get it if I send you an invite that you open on your iPad. I'll need your email address to send the invite, so whatever you prefer.

I am looking at the video and imho the user interface and colourscheme are not really adjusted to your target audience... I would stay away from black backgrounds and too small font - i know the GS system fonts are not the best to do something for kids. If translations are not likely - seeing you are using an English word base using bitmap buttons for the main menu and some of the main items in the game might be a good idea.

Just a quick mock to give you a better idea what I am talking about.

@SpriteAttack really appreciate the input! I know the graphic scheme is pretty weak. I have a lot of confidence in my coding abilities, but not in my traditional design sense. Sounds like I need a graphic overhaul. You're right that kids are going to want a brighter, more intuitive interface.

I just want to be sure it doesn't only appeal to pre-K (e.g. 4 year olds) students. I built this game because my wife works with students in grades 2 and 3 who have learning disabilities and are still learning to read basic words. They get turned off quickly if the reading material is too "kiddie."

@tatiang - There is a simple way to make sure your players get a fitting interface - give them a choice of 4 or 5 skins - it's just the background image and the tiles that need to be changed... colourful tiles for kids, more classic wooden or metal tiles for the older players (maybe even a bunch of different avatars to match the players choice of skin).

Yeah, I had thought about skins. Nice idea.

Hey thanks, @uptimistik! I put a lot of hard work into the mechanics, especially the behind-the-scenes table data retrieval. And I'm deciding on a graphic designer soon, so the game will get an overhaul in terms of looks.

@Geniusbear, I just sent you an invite. Let me know if you receive it. If you want to speed things along, send me a PM with your iPad's UDID.

@blorsch unless you have an iPad, you'll have to wait until I develop an iPhone/iPod version. The current graphics are too small on a smaller device.

@tatiang I just equipped a iPad for test flight.
