As you all know, we've been working on a massive update to the GameSalad engine, in an effort to strip out the Lua code and build games in a native format to the device or platform they've targeted in publishing. This is what we call our Native Code engine, and we posted a short video of its progress back in March, when it was still in pre-Alpha state.

Today, we've officially hit our Alpha milestone with the Native Code engine, and we thought a new video would be just the thing to share with the community. In the video that follows, you'll see GameSalad success story e-Pig Dash! by MagoNicolas running on the same first-gen iPad side-by-side with the new Alpha state Native Code engine and our current 0.9.94 engine.

As stated in the video, our initial results have shown remarkable improvements, mostly in the areas of loading times and memory usage. While every game is different and performance improvements can vary widely from project to project, e-Pig Dash! experienced loading times cut in half and system memory usage reduced 8x. Pretty incredible.

We'll continue to keep the community updated as we get closer to a Beta and then Release-Candidate product. There is currently no target date for the release of the Native Code engine, but we hope to have it ready as soon as possible.

We hope you enjoy the video and let us know what you think of the improvements we're making to the engine. Thanks!

Why do you keep using that word? I do not think it means what you think it means.
