Is this method of animation a bit less complicated per button press?

I'm thinking if this method is good:
- instead of the animation hitting the target if the player is a melee character: a short wave of slash that is released and hits the enemy character then disappears and damages enemy character?
[adding limited missile physics, instead of making the two actors collide within an animation.]

I'm reworking my battle dungeon rpg.
