Gendai folks, I hope you're at least looking into improving image support in GS.

GS Gradient Banding

Adding noise to bitmaps might be an acceptable workaround on an iPhone size screen, but on iPad the banding in gradients can really stand out and no amount of noise is going to solve that. It almost seems like GS is using less than 16 bit color.

Thanks for listening.

    What format are you saving the image in?

    // red.

    I've used some radial gradient in my recent app ( http://www.furiousapps.com/dynaLight.php to see examples ) and they look okay (but the slight white halo in the center is an intended ring for effect and overlayed on the background gradients...look at the pink and blue gradients for the true gradient sample).

    Are you saving as 24bit originals at 72 dpi?

    However...you may still get slight banding if the gradients are extremely slight. Your sample seems that there is enough variation to not have banding...so not sure what the problem is...may be something to do with the original file sample.

    it's an issue with OpenGL ES

    It's been discussed on the internet and I read about a solution.
    I'll see if I can find a link to the fix.

    @ synth - I use 24 bit, and 8 bit art, all at 72 dpi. This topic has come up before -- the example posted shows how severe the problem can get. I don't believe the issue is in the art, unless GS prefers some other format.

    @FMG, maybe you mean something like this?
    Fix for cocos2d color banding
