The device isn't the competiton, the app store is. The Apple app store has more registered users and content than ANY other app store including the Droid apps. There is no comparison at all! Until an app store is large enough to even come close to the apple store, it will not attract as many developers nor will it ever have the same amount of content.
I had an archos 5 IT for a while. I really wanted to like it, but it went down the trade in shop within 8 weeks.
The issues were the resistive touch screen (which I see more than half the new line up still have) and Android just not being that responsive, it was running 1.6. Also the archos release firmware was always super-buggy and reminiscent of having to use windows mobile in that it would crash every few hours.

Mobile market is growing like crazy...I think we're this is a good time to be a mobile developer.
And it is the library of games that makes the device or system, not necessarily the system itself.
PSP is the perfect example of great hardware gone bad because of it's horrible library of games
