Hi Guys,

Wondering about a Mac version of Bumps but i have 0 experience in Mac marketing/online etc.

Have you released any Mac games and how successful were they?

I know the big games portals like Big fish games have a Mac area but apart from that and direct sales where do you sell?

Darren.

I think firemaplegames posted about his approach to selling Mac games.

I didn't see a place for independent developers to get involved with Steam.

I upload my games to Apple.com which has a huge games section. I also partner with MacgameStaroe for a 50/50 split.

I mostly just use the free games/apps listings like MacUpdate.

My Mac sales blow my PC sales out of the water. There is a severe lack of Mac games compared to PC games out there, and Mac users are hungry for them.

When I forst started out, I tried the PC portals like BigFishGames etc., and only made a few hundred bucks. Plus you have to strip out all of your branding, links, etc. and slap theirs into the game. Then the split is usually tilted 75/25 in their favor. And now all their games cost 7$ instead of 20$. Unless you have a major hit, it's so much work for so little reward.

I write my games in Flash and then used a '.swf2exe' tool to make the Desktop versions. Specifically I used a wrapper called mProjector. These wrappers simply give you he power to read/write from the file system, as well as make the game full screen/windowed, and be able to Quit, etc..

I made the simplest of DRMs in Flash. You can play the game free for an hour.

I set up the credit card processing through Plimus.com, who take 10% of the total price, which in my case is $1.99.

So for every sale I make, I make about $18. I had a little over 5000 sales last year. So it is definitely no joke. I make more from the downloadable games than I do from my regular salary as a Flash Programmer and my GameSalad profits combined.

You already have the PC version of Bumps done in GameMaker, can't you simply port it over to the Mac side now? I would definitely do that.
