Looks like good news for GS, Adobe, and a bunch of other companies.

At least until Jobs changes his mind again. At least they realized the idiocy of their original decision.

Did you see the 5000 lines of restrictions in the new guidelines

    I am actually glad

I made a post right by yours linking the new guidelines

Right, that has to do with content, not the tool originally used to create the content (which was one of the stupidest rules ever made). Again, you have to take all of this with a grain of salt. Steve could change his mind next week.

    This is so exciting!
Someone whose Flash app which has been held for months has just had it approved.

Tools like GameSalad, Flash, Unity, Torque, Corona, Etc. are so fantastic for the creative community.

I think they are the wave of the future.

They allow people like me who do both the art and programming unleash our full potential.

As a game player, I am so looking forward to see what the hundreds of thousands of Flash developers will be able to create for this device.

No doubt competition in the games space will increase tremendously...

I hope so. As a consumer anyway.

Making games is still a daunting task regardless of what tools are used.

    Joe,

Are you planning doing any flash iphone stuff?
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
Yeah, I would love to redesign and port some of my Flash games over to the iPhone.

I enjoy making word games - something that cannot realistically be done with GS without arrays.
Also, little grid-based puzzle games. Those types of games are really miserable to make in GameSalad because they generally require 3 things:

    Arrays
    For loops
    Concatenation

For example, my word games require a dictionary that has 120,000 words in it.

Flash is not better or worse than GS, I've just been using it for 10+ years now.

So how does flash handle touch?
Some sort of raycast method upon touch?

Does a mouseclick translate to a touch etc...

I havent used flash for a few versions but It does make me very interested.

Yes, the new version of Flash has full multiTouch support. It was built not just for the web, but all sorts of touch interfaces. iPhones, iPods, Android phones, kiosks, etc.

I'm not sure if it translates mouse clicks to touches and vice versa. I think you have to specifically account for them.

I am just excited because it is yet another cool tool to make apps with!

Not to mention flash resources are by far the most extensive out there
Lots of great tutorials as well

I do agree that there will be some great games showing up

I never really worry about the crud anyways. There is plenty of room at the bottom lol

I agree. I don't think this poses any threat to us at all. In fact it will likely make it easier for gendai to attract even more investors - the threat of being shut out of the appstore is certainly behind us (unless steve changes his mind). Which would mean even more improvements to GS!

It may also mean that gendai will FINALLY allow our games to be played on other browsers (a key part of my sciTunes business) and possibly other mobile devices now that apple seems less likely to shut companies out for cross platform support.

This is going to be interesting...
