Hi,

I've decided to start learning Objective-C.

I currently have "Beginning iPhone 3 Development - Exploring the iPhone SDK" book in hand.
What other book or website do you recommend?
How did you start learning it?
How long did it take you to make your first xCode app?
Any tips or advices?

Thanks

You should probably start by learning basic theory of code before jumping into iPhone development.

A great sight to start is http://cocoadevcentral.com/

That book in particular is what I started with 2 years ago, and it is an excellent resource but does not cover the basics as well as I feel it should have.

Learning the ABSOLUTE basics of coding will take very little time, and doing so will greatly ease the pain of learning to code.

    You should know:

    variable
    constant
    integer
    double
    bool(ean)
    if statements
    for loops
    simple arrays
    general math knowledge

These coupled with the general syntax involved in programing are a good way to start. I personally suggest using youtube to learn the basics of C++ and you will go far!

If you really want something a bit more interactive, you can try MyCodeTeacher. They've got online video instruction and they have a curriculum specifically for iPhone development.

It ranges from $9.99 per month to $99 per year, all you can eat within that time.

If you look on iTunes and search for iPhone Application Development, there is a whole series by Stanford University that you can download for free. It was made available for free. It is excellent, I have learnt a lot from there.
