iOS4 Bricked my iPod

Thanks a bunch Apple.

iOS 4 has totally bricked my iPod Touch. It is NOT jailbroken, I've forced "recovery mode" several times, updated to the latest iTunes, followed every possible way to fix this that I have found online but iTunes won't restore my unit. It just hangs about 1/4 way through the restore process.

The only good thing that could come from this is that Apple would have to replace it under warranty and I'd get a shiny new one with Retina display ;-)

EDIT: I should add, the problems started when trying to install iOS4.1

the last solution, which i have done myself several times when friends told me their ipods and iphones were bricked.

You have to let it sit a few days until it is completely dead

then plug it into your computer and let itunes restore it from a backup

I have never seen this fail yet..

I am not promising anything though. Also i doubt it is 4.1

more often that not its the plug connection causes something to fail in the middle of some process and now you are stuck there.

There are no Apple Stores in NZ. Just "official retailers", who have to get permission from Apple before they do anything and unfortunately I don't have time to get to an Apple Store here in Australia before I head back to NZ on Tuesday... I work very odd hours... GRRRRRR

I'll try that. Not that it helps me much as I have shipped everything back to NZ and the iPod Touch was my only form of entertainment for the next week until I have all my stuff at the other end. Perfect timing...

    Thanks, though.

That sucks. I would definitely just take it back to the apple store.

Yeah, I'll see if I can get to one here. If not, I'll have to wait a million years for red tape bullshit, back in the capital of political correctness - New Zealand. God, I hate my country sometimes. LOL.

Just a thought... I bought mine from the online Apple refurbished store... would this be taken into account when considering replacement?

Thanks, I'll try that too. I am trying to restore from my G4 Powerbook, so I'll try restoring from my Mac Mini (which it usually syncs to) when I'm back in nZ... unfortunately I have already shipped the mini :(

    Will do.

Okay, I realised I'd downloaded iOS 4.1 while I still had an older version of iTunes installed (I'm using my second Mac). I downloaded iOS again after updating iTunes and it worked.... still, lost all my apps etc so can't do much with the iPod until I get back to NZ and can sync with my main machine but at least it's not dead!

I'm just worried that I can't revert to a saved version on my Mac Mini now that my OS has been updated on another computer... I kinda miss the days where you had to save your game progress by writing down a password, same for high scores! LOL.
