inventory pop up screen with drag and drop?

I am absolutely new to this but its so much fun to do... however my ideas are beyond my coding skills.. im doing little bits of tutorials etc and was wondering if the following is possible...

so heres what im trying to figure out.

i would like an inventory pop up screen that pauses the game.. (like pop up menu demo)
i want to be able to drag and drop from my inventory into my scene/character...
how do i put a dragable object inside the pop up menu?
click confirm
continue game

any one have any ideas how i could set this up? or what would be a good way to approach this?

    ive got a long way to go before il have anything.. im just trying to do separate small bits at the moment

    ok so i can get a pop up menu with a drag-able actor in there that drags to anywhere on screen..(awesome!)

    however when i close the pop up menu the actor disappears as well...(not so awesome)

    how can i get the pop up to close.. but the actor to stay???

    You have a rule that makes this item disappearing. You must find it, and delete.
