Achievements

On the PlayStation Network, I noticed that only paid games give achievements. Plus, I'm not seeing any restrictions. For example, the cheaper games on the PlayStation network tend to give less trophies than the more expensive ones on blu-ray disks. So, I don't see what's stopping me from creating the "Easy Achievements" app. Press a button and get an achievement.

If this is accurate, I think the system is very broken.

Oh, and it seems that you can only have 500 friends on Game Center.

That wouldn't really be "achieving" anything though, would it? Achievements should be "achieved".

Out of the thousands of developers, is it realistic to expect all of them to adhere to that lofty standard?

except the fact it has to be approved. Which would require it to have sufficient functionality.

I assume they would look at the achievement system as well.

I figure this would happen too. Obviously if it's a "Press a button to get an achievement" app, I suspect that Apple would reject it. But what about something like Arcade Action? I have 5 games there now. What if I add 20 games, 100 games, 1000 games... what if I have an achievement for each game? What's the limit? What's the standard?

What if I finally make Spoko? What if I design it for young children? Can I give them an award for learning to walk the dog? "Congratulations, you learned how to move to the right!"

If there is no standard, what's to stop developers from catering to the lowest common denominator - those that want easy achievements, so they can look cool to their friends? Game pricing quickly fell to the bottom. It's very hard to charge more than 99¢ for a game. It's not hard to imagine that easy achievements would be added to make the game more appealing than another. If there are no rules, what's to stop chaos?

I really don't see what the problem is. Put whatever you want in your games.

I thought this was about achievements in gs games. What are the point of achievements in ps games? Do they get you anything special?

No they are similar to Game Center. It was a reference to show that Sony puts restrictions on how many points you can give out.
