Pro... Overpriced?

Hello everyone,
It's been a while hm? Been working my arse off in school and gamesalad. Which is good because I have encountered no problems.
Anyway, I think the pro edition maybe be a little, "Overpriced". I think $1000 would be a respectable amount. But $2000? I think it's a bit too much.
So yeah, I'll start a poll on what you guys think.
Cheers, Dragokillz

But there are about 2 or 300 other threads started on this topic in the last 2 weeks.
But hey...another one can't hurt.
Please kick their ass to make a statement on pricing and get them to let us know if the pro cost will be around for a long time. If it's a one off with no yearly re-charge then I would upgrade.
I guess if you ran a query against the forum database on all the bitching over the cost, I bet it would account for 50% of storage used. I bet if enough people bitch every day we would all get a ban or they will so worn out that they would become sensible and modify the price structure. Ha ha

1) Pro is too expensive
I can't buy it now because I don't know if the price is going to drop tomorrow... maybe they'll have a sale or something. Gendai Games doesn't say.
2) Communication is poor
When's the next update?! When's Game Center going to be available? I'm working on a really cool project - Annoyed Tomatoes. Improved performance and full Game Center would dramatically change the game's design.
This has improved though, as they're coming to NYC. I've known ArenaNet for years and I don't think they've ever done a NYC event. Those Yellow posts are not too bad either. Unfortunately, the speed and clarity of the message is lacking. I think Gendai Games should have a clear roadmap like Corona. Set clear deadlines and meet those deadlines. If a deadline is going to be missed, let us know beforehand. We're adults, most of us anyway, we know how this works.
3) Recent updates have been slow and unremarkable
At a time when the competition is heating things up, Gendai Games seems to be slowing down... that's what it looks like from the outside anyway.
The software if provided free. The service is compiling of your creation into a form for iPhone sales. That is a service, and you can't expect Gendai to do that forever with a single payment. And this service is valuable... and certainly not compulsory or even necessary.
That seems to be the real issue, people would like to see more options in the service upgrades and service pricing structure.
For what Pro costs for two years, you could get a huge amount of Adobe software... AND MAKE iOS GAMES!
When GS is upto date in around 5 years it "might" be worth $2K but as it is now...buggy, loads missing etc etc not worth much more than express imo.
Darren.
But this is still a pointless discussion. Let the free market work.
Large companies need to produce "white label" products. Products with no splash screen.
To make even the simplest of apps with any other engine or Xcode would require that company to hire a developer, as well as an artist. That would cost anywhere from 100K-200K.
The Pro version of GameSalad is an incredible bargain for a company like this. An entry level graphic designer or artist can use GameSalad to create apps. Hiring an artist and using GameSalad vs. hiring an artist plus a developer is a very easy choice to make. Now, of course it depends on the types of apps you are creating. If you are making an advanced app with lots of features, then of course hire a developer. But most people just need simple apps and games to promote their products.
If your situation is NOT like the one above, and you are an Indie developer hoping to make money on the App Store, then I strongly recommend not even thinking about Pro. 99% of you will not make your money back - even if it only cost $500.
I have used several pieces of software that had very similar pricing structures. The Pro version of Unity is $3000 for example.
Now, I'm sure lots of people could argue that Unity is WAY better than GameSalad. Well, only if you know how to code. If you don't, than I would argue that it is worse.
The biggest turn off for me apart the the price is it's not stable, lacking loads of features (hence the Beta) but the BIG one for me is the annual fee, if Unity started charging $3000 a year i'm not so sure they would get the custom.
GS needs us or they don't have a business and we need there excellent Engine so i'm sure they can meet us in the middle.
Darren.
But then the way these threads are going, it would be free by now!
