    Same post twice?

    1) Skill
    2) Great Idea
    3) Massive luck in getting someone to see it in the sea of 250,000 apps (200,000 which are !@#$% hehe)
    4) And people seem to go for nice art, even when the gameplay sucks. But honestly you need great gameplay, then great art. Hard part is #3 :P
    5) $99 to apple
    6) Use XCode for free or use something like GS for an additional $99 per year

A better question would be 'What kind of game do you want to make?'

If you want to make a 'successful' app, then what TymeMaster says is pretty much spot on.

You might want to look at what's popular on the app store, but that's also risky as what's popular today, might not be popular tomorrow.

You could alternatively try and target a certain demographic or user - Butterbean and Stusapps do this really well, as well as Tshirt of course.

Or you could just make a game you'd like to make that you think is fun. The negative points here are:

    1. what you think is fun might not necessarily be the case for other people
    2. there's no guarantee you'll make money (though this is the case for all apps)

The plus points are that you'll have a game you like to play!

The other argument for 'going against the grain' is that a lot of successful games either refine what is already available and add something new, or innovate.

People like innovation. GTA 3 is a great example. The Wii is a great example.

    But it's risky!

So... the choice is up to you!

    QS :D
