As the title says, what are your five favourite console/computer games? I know there are loads and hard to cut down but if you could only have five in your collection, what would they be?

Here's my list (in no particular order):

1. Super Mario Kart (SNES)
2. Need For Speed (3DO)
3. Street Fighter 2 SCE (Mega Drive)
4. Shenmue (Dreamcast)
5. California Games (Commodore 64)

Those games just managed to knock Tempest 2000 (Jaguar) from the top five list, for me.

Limiting to one game per franchise:

    1. Banjo-Tooie (N64)
    2. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
    3. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Wii)
    4. Paper Mario (N64)
    5. Mega Man II (NES)

I was exposed to console games through renting them at Blockbuster while growing up. I do love games like MW2 and GOW2, but all the games listed above have happy memories behind them, mostly growing up :]

Honerable Mentions: Portal, All Super Smash Bros, Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, MW2, GOW2, Star Fox Adventures, SSX Tricky, DDR, FlashFlashRevolution (RIP), Donky Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, Yoshi Story, Bumps, Twilight Princess, Croccer, .Hack/Infection, .Hack/Mutation, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Crash Bandicoot 3, Rayman 1 & 2, I Wanna Be The Guy, Math Blaster Mystery, and Soooooo much more...

Edit: I've edited this post like 100 times in my mind! Make it a top 15 list and we'll be square xD

Ah, Battlefield 1942, I totally forgot about that! Still not my top five but close! Love that game and I generally don't like FPS games. GoldenEye (N64) was another.

I really don't do much in the way of games, but one I really enjoy and play at least a little almost every day is Think Tanks, an online tank battle game.

    A lot of fun.

If I was going on a trip to Mars today, and there was only room for five games, I'd pick the following games...

1 - Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (PS3)
    2 - Halo (PC)
3 - World of Warcraft (Pre-Expansions - No Trolls in Stormwind!)
4 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii
5 - Arcade Action (iPhone / iPod Touch)

Heh, but four of those games are (or include) multiplayer... three have online multiplayer features... so without fast Internet access, quite common in space, it would be pretty dull. (Maybe it could be modified as a local area network thing, where the other astronauts could play along.)

As for the fifth game - Arcade Action - I'm waiting to update it with Game Center, so that too is supposed to have online features.

I don't have a huge portfolio of games played and I can't claim to be a serious gamer but here are my top 5 [in no order].

1 - Super Mario Bros (NES)
    2 - Mario Kart (Wii)
3 - Call of Duty (MW2 - can't say I've really played any of the others)
    4 - Need For Speed Underground 2
    5 - Transworld Snowboarding

Halo Reach is climbing the ranks fast.

Quick - edit your post! You forget to linkify 'Arcade Action'!!!

Anyway, back to the topic at hand:

It's a difficult question, and will probably change every time you ask. But here goes:

    1. Tetris (Gameboy)
    2. Elite (BBC Micro/Zx Spectrum/C64 and dozens of others - the NES version is quite good too)
    3. Galaga - arcade
    4. Star Wars - arcade (I'm thinking the sit down version)
    5. Super Aleste/Space Megaforce - SNES

There are countless others that I could swap in and out = Zelda OoT, Outrun, Mario, Sega Rally, 1942, Space Harrier, 3D Deathchase, Cyclone, TLL, The Hobbit (last four on the Speccy!) etc etc

But there you have it - check 'em out if you can!

    QS :D

One link per app, per post, is enough. Heh, the spam filter might block me again if I put too many links.

There are two... I'm thinking you mean the 1980's version, not the 1990's version.

Heh... the Sega 32X... that's where Sega really went wrong.

    @Photics - I am indeed referring to the GLORIOUS 80s version :D

I remember playing the sega genesis version. Wasn't the boss at the end of every level a dragon?

Wash your mouth out! The 32X version of Star Wars Arcade was AWESOME! As was Virtua Racing! ;-)

    History says otherwise...

1994, in a toy store in Staten Island, I stood around a Donkey Kong Country kiosk. I was Nintendo game demonstrator, but there wasn't much to show. The conversation was basically...

    "Is that the game."
    "Yes."
    "Do you have it?"
    "Yes, here's a slip."

The customer took the paper slip to the register to get their game. Meanwhile, the kiosk would reset like every 10-15 minutes. I eventually got very bored and quit. I lasted about a month. I realized that I had much better things to do.

...but the point is this... next to the Nintendo display was the dark and depressing aisle for Sega stuff. The 32X was not drawing the same fanfare... it was more like the Island of Misfit Toys. If not for the failures of the 32X and the Sega Saturn, perhaps the Dreamcast wouldn't have died such a quick death.
  • AfterBurnettAfterBurnett Member Posts: 3,474
I agree that the 32X was a balls-up, but there were a COUPLE of good games ;-)

And the Saturn was MASSIVE! Only in Japan, though. LOL.
  • daverennerdaverenner Member Posts: 133
@Poly...sold my Saturn and about 50 games so i could buy my GS license and apple license...miss it all ready....Also, the C64 was freaking awesome. Ahhh the days of peeks and pokes....
  • AfterBurnettAfterBurnett Member Posts: 3,474
I used to have a few Saturns. I loved the Japanese Sega Ages range (although I don't think they were called that on Saturn(later on PS2)) - PowerDrift, Outrun etc :) Arcade perfect!

I still play C64 (via emulator since my one died :( )

Let's be honest: Mario Kart Wii may not be perfect, but it's hilarious to NOT call it the best game ever. ;-) I played it almost 1400 hours. ;-)
So here's my list (only one game per series):

    1. Mario Kart Wii
    2. Day Of The Tentacle
    3. Monkey Island 2
    4. Super Mario Bros. 3
    5. Super Mario Galaxy

PS: why not a list of the top 25? ;-)
  • ShpintShpint Member Posts: 404

    2) Pokemon Platinum (NDS)
    3) Archetype
    4) Angry Birds
    5) Can't think of one, but right now "Beyond YNTH!!!"

    Wow. Tough call.

    1) Doom (PC. Yay shareware!)
This game and it's sequels sucked an untold number of years worth of productivity out of me and probably cost me a finance.

    2) Minecraft
Newer game and even though I have only been playing it for a couple of days, it is starting to suck what could be another couple years of productivity out of me. Timer is on... NOW!

    3) Full Throttle
What can I say, I loved the rest of the classic Lucasarts games as well but this one had me glued until I finished it. Maybe it was the soundtrack...

    4) Siege & Dogs of War Add-on (PC)
By Mindcraft. Google it. Take that C&C.

    5) Revenge of the Mutant Camels (C64)
First game we got with our C64 and it was close enough to battling AT-ATs on the surface of Hoth as I would get until Super Empire Strikes Back came out.
