How powerful is GameSalad? What are some of the best games made with it?

Hi everyone! I just discovered GameSalad and can't wait to get started making games. From reading through the forums I can tell this is a friendly community with developers helping each other.

A couple things I'm wondering about though is how powerful is GameSalad? Could say, Angry Birds or Plants vs Zombies have been developed on it?

Also, If you could pick a few of the best games made with GameSalad what would they be?

There is a lot of junk out there because it's so easy to use GS - which discouraged me when I first came across it as it seemed as though you could only make, well, crap XD

In reality there have been some fantastic games made by GS though; I'd say Stunt Squirrels is one to look at for inspiration - also Bumps.

There are others, but I just woke up.

    Welcome to GS, by the way ^-^;

Yes Angry Birds could be made with Gamesalad but would need a lot less levels and it wouldn't have open feint.

Although some amazing game made are Star Daze HD, Stunt Squirrels, Bumps, Attack of The Kraken, Max Vector, Danger Cats!, and many more :)

    Cheers, Weswog

It's very powerful but it depends what you want to make.

I would have a week and play around then see what can and can't be done.

GS has it's limitations but also has strengths so the best thing to do is find the strong parts of the engine and make a game around that.

GameSalad is a 2D engine, that can create games similar in functionality to those from the Super Nintendo / Sega Genesis era... but with modern graphics.

Arcade Action and Commove are two examples of GameSalad games that I created.

There are a few good games developed with GS, the rest are crap since anyone can create a game with it easily.

It lacks a lot of features currently compared to the other development environments (Unity, Corona, Coco2d)

I would recommend Unity 3 if you have any JavaScript programming under your belt.

tshirtbooth, I believe that Tumble Drop was not made using GameSalad. It has web access. I believe it was made using Unity (maybe you are talking about another game with same name or something like that).

Hey! I made the alt list! ;-)

I've been here less time than some, but I do like GS a lot.

It's easy to make games! But not TOOO easy - the more effort you put in,
the more complicated things you can make.

There are things missing, but GS is a fairly new program itself,
it is evolving as we do

But hey, it's good to get in on a good thing while it's new! ;-)
