Any Aussie Developers uploaded to iTunes?

Not sure if this is the right section. But I'm getting around to uploading my first app, and I've just discovered the need for an ABN and all that jazz. The ABN website says I'm not required to have one when I fill it out, and the entire process of dealing with this is pretty complicated. Just wondering what other Aussies have done regarding getting an ABN in order to get their apps published. I'm thinking I need to see an accountant in order to get all this sorted out properly

    Hey - I've done it :)

You don't need an accountant - it's not as hard as it seems.

I have a few apps up now; until I wanted to get into development I stayed completely out of "the system" - I didn't even have a tax file number. (Don't ask.)

Honestly, it's easy. If you need any advice ask me.

With ABNs - you can apply online - you get the papers within a month. It's free and it's not stressful - you don't need any ID, just your TFN on hand.

Get in touch if you need help; at first I was overwhelmed with it too - and nearly gave up when I found out I'd need an ABN - but in the end got it all sorted.

My email is my username here at Gmail.

    If I'm slow to reply it's because my hours are absolutely insane ^-^;

PS - Yes, they say you don't need one if you fill it out in a certain way. You need to twist the truth slightly in terms of preparing a business venture (you say you've put some kind of prep in) and exaggerate the amount you think you'll make - doing so has no repercussions - it's just how the automated system handles it.

Also, be sure to apply for GST at the same time - it's on the form as well - you need it to sell in Australia.

Hi juzcook I'm an Aussie too but I'm not at the publishing stage yet so I don't know what to expect myself, I hope to get there by the end of the year though and maybe then you and peach can help me too :)
    Good luck with the process
    Cheers

I'm a Kiwi but published on the Aussie store as I was living there at the time. It's all pretty simple... I can't remember the process but there were no hiccups... then again, Aussies are a little slower.... HAHAHA jokes ;-) But yeah, nothing to worry about.

Have fun creating and uploading, then hopefully selling LOADS!

Skippy - email me if you need any help. You might go through it fine but yeah, some of the questions can be a bit confusing. :)

It honestly still is a bit daunting even with Peach's advice, but I'm slowly piecing everything together so it makes more sense haha. I hope selling on the US store is easier than setting up for the Aus one!

@ PG - Have you had any problems with it when it comes to tax time? Assuming you aren't solely building games for your income?

No worries Skippy - like Juz said it's still daunting, but honestly, it's really not a big thing once you get into it.

Juz - once you've got your ABN and give it to Apple you'll be able to sell paid games in any country; there's no further stuff you'll need to do - you get your ABN (registered for GST too) and you'll get mailed a certificate, you scan it, or in my case photograph it with the iPhone 4, lol, and upload it on their site and you can sell your apps all over the world.

Skippy - think ahead. When you think you have a game a month away from being good to go, apply for your ABN. The mailout takes up to 3 weeks.
