This is a continuation of this thread...

In my GameSalad textbook I downplayed Mac Publishing. I felt it wasn't complete, not robust enough to pursue. Yet, I read something recently that made me rethink the matter...

People actually want to play iOS games on their desktop. I realized how easy it is to port GameSalad game to the Mac, but the features are not quite there yet. Some more features are needed. That's what this thread is about... features to make Mac (and eventually PC) publishing better.

Full-Screen Mode - maintain ratio --- I like the full screen mode, but it only works for games that fit the screen ration. For example, Portrait games look terrible. Solution, have an option to maintain the game's ratio... leaving black bars on the sides to prevent graphic distortion.

MySQL Database communication --- This could be a Pro feature, as it could be a money maker. The problem with distributing games is that there's no Digital Rights Management. A game could be easily be copied. With access to an online database, a player can register their game online. The registration code can only be used once, deterring theft. With that online connection, it could become an online game.

Encryption --- If you distribute your game to Mac, you're basically giving away the raw assets of your game... sound, audio, even the GameSalad project file. This is bad, as it makes it too easy to steal. The final game should be encrypted... or to make it export friendly, as the United States has laws against exporting encrypted software... it shouldn't be in the default GameSalad format.

With the release of GameSalad 0.9.0 — I went back to check this issue. Full-Screen mode still has a ratio issue, the games are not encrypted either... and obviously database support has not been added.

Although, with the Mac App Store... http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/ ...a lot can happen in this area.
