Really? I haven't bought my membership yet, waiting and waiting (£160 or whatever it is equal to is a lot when you are a student), as far as I was aware I thought that we had no access to the Xcode whatsoever. Meh

This method involves a bit of hacking. Its not taking the xcode file, its taking the .app file.

They should let us do our own splash screen then they insert small logo and made with gamesalad in bottom corner

    @RH - I would do the $99 express - it's a great deal!

I'm just going to try to find a pro GS user who's willing to compile the app for me for some $$, and then send it so that the GS logo doesn't show

do you want the GS logo removed because its a bad thing or just an issue for your own purpose. I have seen a few reviewers of apps say not so good things about GS, so I wonder why you want it removed.

I want it off because it discusts me. Haha I'm just kidding, but really, I dont like it being there. Reviews are worse when they know it was made with GS. Loading times feel shorter when your looking at something appealing other than the GS logo. If your app is ok, and does not have a GS logo, then it has a higher chance of someone telling another to buy it then if it did have a GS logo.

While I agree that there seems to be some negative connotation following GS (which is unfortunate), I think we really just need to grin and bear it until the product comes of age where it gets its recognition from being a stable development product that produces (more or less) stable games.

I have sinking feeling that is just an unfortunate minority that have made it their mission to deride Gendai. Jealousy? Who knows...

I look at it two ways...

Realistically what percentage of people really care or even know what the GS logo means when it comes up?

On the other hand there is a brand issue and maybe they are better off not displaying the GS logo until it is out of beta and a more robust package.

Either way GS is a very good product and as long as the quality of the games continue to improve that's the best way to help GS's image.

I think the negative publicity the logo carries is not due to the bugginess of the GS engine, more the fact that a hell of a lot of really crap games display that logo as they load. It's a price paid for having software that is so very easy to use. Non-imaginative/non-creative people and those releasing their learning projects on to the app store are what causes the problems.

I think its a bit of both to be honest.

The amount of crappy test/first projects being published with the GameSalad Logo is definately partly to blame, but for quite a while the reputation was taking a beating in a large part due to the painfully long load times most GS apps suffered.

The load times were greatly improved, and not really an issue anymore.... but now GameSalad apps take a beating for being behind the curve when it comes to social features and the lack of online leaderboards. Its not a gamekiller, but to a lot of punters out there, it seems to be a big enough issue to 1 star review otherwise competent games.

So yup... GameSalad games do still tend to have a bad reputation for various reasons. I think its slowly getting better, as more creative and polished games are being created, but it does still seem to be there.

    Agree with this.

Yea I think most complaints about GS games are loading times. Regarding the crappy apps that get put up, I think Apple has a big part to play in this.

Yeah, apple should really start being like..
"Oh what's this? Touch and remove the non animated zombies to score points....

    ...DENIED!"

    lol

i think people should publish what ever they want... the fact that it wont sell should tell them maybe they are on the wrong track. Its up to us to make good working and appealing games.. if enough of those are made then the GS logo will not matter.

the only thing is it might seem to some users that GS is actually the one making the game.. it should really just say:

build on a GS game engine..

i have no problem with the GS logo being there.. it would be cool if that load screen would let us add our logo on it as well... so you would have both and the end user would clearly see the creator part and engine part..

@chunky, your partially correct. Load times were way down in .0.8.7 and now they're back up to where they were at 0.8.6. Not good.

I personally haven't noticed load times increase. My Grisly Manor game loads in less than 2 seconds on all devices except for the original iPhone 2G, where it takes about 4 seconds.

You might not be noticing this because you have more than one scene. Afterburn. (In version 0.8.7 loaded in 7 s flat) (Now in 0.8.9 it loads in 17s). I noticed this right when I updated. I checked load times and they were drastically up. It might be more noticeable though because I have one scene.
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
Yes, that's true. My first scene is my animated logo.

I always try to keep that Scene as light as possible so the game loads as fast as possible for the users.

I also try to use as few Prototype Actors as possible, because I found that they negatively affect loading times as well.

You my friend are DEAD ON, 100% correct, give this man a cigar! And it is exactly the same reason why Game Maker made games have the same M.O. The engines are awesome, but they are the reason for the majority of crap.
