App Description in iTunes Connect?

For us folks who are new to submitting an app to the App Store, is the description field under the app's Metadata in iTunes Connect the same info that appears along with the app when it's actually in the store?
The reason I'm asking is because once text is entered in the field and saved, Apple's web site displays it as a huge single block of text, without returns or line breaks of any kind -- which is odd. I can't tell whether this text will get transferred to the App Store as is, or whether it's just for some internal Apple reference. Thanks in advance for any explanation.

The text will appear as you typed it in. Not as the big block of text.
