Rotational Concentricity

This one's really tricky, so I'm interested to see how anyone would solve it. I've pulled my hair trying to get it right!

Setup:
I have a gravity Y constant and I have a number of stacked actors. All the actors are to follow the first in the series (indicated by red actor block) which is accelerating toward its 'top' (represented by the X).

Right now the blue and green actors chase the red one by updating to it's x,y position every 0.1 seconds. By having a rule for the blue and green actors to rotate to red's x,y position as well isn't accomplishing the 'stacked look' I'm going for.

I would like following actors (blue and green) to all rotate to the red actor's direction of travel (indicated by the X in the picture). So that no matter which way red turns, the other colors line up behind it facing toward the direction of travel.

I have no idea how to set up an attribute for the direction of travel, let alone how to follow it concentrically (sure, that's a word!). This is sorcery of which I do not comprehend!

Sorry, but right now I don't have internet access when I'm programming and when I'm at work, I don't have audio, so the videos won't do me much good.

Just watched the first video and yes, I remember this, but don't see how it's going to be applied in GS. I just don't understand how the logic tree in GS will handle it.
