Would you pay $99 per game, no royalties?

GS has an opportunity here to capitalize on momentum while not pissing everyone off.

Would you pay $99 per game published? No fee for updates (patches) to existing already published games.

This $99 barrier would keep the trash out, and provide a constant stream of income for GS, and allow developers to keep their brand.

What do you think?

I wan't to vote but I can't... I don't like the sound of either. A fee per game, yes, $99, no.

    Without hesitation.

I don't think they could do that, 100 games a month would only bring in $9999 dollars, which wouldn't be anywhere near enough, and I'm not sure how many games they'd have submitted for that price, maybe less than 100 a month..

It only cost $99 for the developer program, not per app.

$99 per app is ridiculous I know we want GameSalad to stop there nonsense but telling them that we will pay $99 per app is just insane the dev account is that much through apple and you can develop as much as you like, yes I know that there is coding involved but so be it if it takes having to learn another language just to make a game let's do it. I can see a smaller fee but thats just crazy sorry ORBZ I know it will possibly help with people not uploading crap and stuff but honestly the gameSalad name is already tainted in some places so I don't think that would help out as much either since there trying to make money and lots of it obviously. As indie developers we should and have the right to create content that can help promote our own company not make a great game like Mini Cannon and have it published by someone else so they can take credit when all they did was offer the software and we busted our asses doing all the work (i.e. t-shirt) with software they don't even update as much or try to help out with. I've seen more YouTube videos by a certain forum member then I have from GameSalad staff and they made the !@#$%. Just think people if we let them go and charge $99 per app or even $1999 for Pro there soon going to say alright stick it to them and charge $2500 just trow in a few new add ons they'll buy it and there where stuck paying all that for nothing. I'm not trying to say be cheap about it either cause I love spending money from building my own Gaming PC's to buying my 60" Sony T.V.'s and stuff but it's just not right. This is just my opinion.

First thing I need you thinking about is how to get my roommates girlfriend to make me a sandwich. hmm

    Dear GameSalad:

I think it's down right ridiculous for anyone to pay you $99.00 up front for publishing a game. Where is the Return-On-Investment (ROI) on that for us? If we pay your $99.00 fee, we have no guarantee that our App will sell enough copies to break-even on iTunes. So what you are proposing is that we pay you $99.00/game and maybe we'll sell a ton load copies of the game or none at all. With the way how the game market is now, that would certainly make us big-time losers!

On a serious note, I'd personally -maybe - would consider a one-off fee per game to Gendai if it would save me from the hassle of putting the game on the App store; and a thought, perhaps there could be a tiered system of royalty percentage to Gendai if they published on their own site/other sites. Something like no royalty for sales from 0 to 250, 5% for sales of 251 to 2000, etc. This is all off-the-top-of-my-tired-head stuff though.

No, the op decided to reply to a thread from a month ago... Not sure why.

This is why all threads should be locked after 30 days. Stops this sort of stuff.

If I had a popular game then fee but I don't know if a game that I publish will be popular so for now free.

Did you read the title of the Poll?

    It reads:

poll: Would you pay $99 per game published, no revenue sharing?

Yes, that's what the poll reads.

The poll is also a month old and now irrelevant to... well, *anything*.

@dejohnny2: what if it was $79 per game or $229 for seven games?
  • dotsonj23dotsonj23 Member Posts: 316
Please let this chain die or take it down. It is irrelevant since they announced that the new professional and express versions will not have a per app fee and that the professional subscription price will be lower. I know I responded to this, thus keeping it alive, but I hope no one else will or it will get taken down. Cheers!

    QS

Hi QS; I thought that Gendai were planning their own publishing model (only) but because of all the (understandable) "wailing and gnashing of teeth" they decided to still keep the option to publish with Apple on the App Store, but also still keep this future-explained, vague-at the-moment, Gendai publishing model.

If that's the case, perhaps this resurrected thread might still be relevant? Not trying to be clever, just confused, you see (the gin, the gin, the damned gin... not really, can't stand gin).

Regardless, the original comments came across as someone who didn't know what was going on and yelling at GS for stuff they never said would happen. The topic was started by a user, not GS, and was hypothetical in its nature with regard to the previously outlined GS Direct plans, which have been ditched.

He then conveniently bypassed what JonM said and cried 'look at the poll'. Which made no sense.

I don't know if there *is* a GS Direct option - but even if there is, this has nothing to do with it as you can keep your Express and Pro memberships as before.

    /hands you some more gin

The answer to that is NO! GameSalad's proposition is not a good one and eventually they will lose their faithful followers! There is absolutely no value to me in using their IDE to develop a game when I have to pay them $99.00 to publish it. If that is the case, I would need to have access to the generated source code, so that I can compile and publish it myself. I would prefer to pay a monthly or yearly subscription to use this software, and it better be reasonable or else I'll go use Torque for $99.00 and have 100% access to the code!
