Just been working out what this new structure means in terms of hard cash.

I work in a team of 3, I code, Chris does the art and Ben does the music.

We work on a revenue share where i get 60% for code, design, marketing Chris gets 30% and Ben 10%.

On a 99c game or app Apple take 30% leaving 69.3c.

69.3c - 30% (if they want 30% could be more!) gives GS 14.55c leaving us 33.96c

33.96c split between the 3 of us (my team) leaves:

Me 20.37c

Chris 10.18c

Ben 3.39c

(GS 14.55!!!)

This means for every game we make GS will get more than my artist & musician combined! and 3/4 of my wage just for submitting the app.

I will still do my own marketing, press release, pics and videos etc so all they will be doing is sending the app to Apple.

Seems like a lot of money for such a small amount of work and don't forget they want us to pay to upload the app!

2 months working long days making a game V's 2 minutes to submit to Apple = No thanks.

Darren.

And the really sad part is that you have to work really hard on marketing in order to combat the bad name that GameSalad will have (logo plus name in the appstore)

It is pure greed nothing more....they want more of your pie and are going to get it. Not just happy with all the free and unrestricted publicity they feel they deserve a cut of your talent as well....simple.

Ben should get more than 10% IMO :)

The app store is already, for the majority, at bottom tier. Therefore, 90% of games will be introduced at the 59p/99c range. When we already give Apple 30% we're making nothing as it is!

Darren, on top of all those fees, TAX

What they need to remember is that GS is an emulator and we make the ROMS without people like us making games for them they have no product. If you have ever studdied the build that they send you and unpack it and open it in Xcode its a game engine (emulator) which loads the .project contained within.

What we need is to cut the middle man out and compile the .project ourselves...

As Beefy said, tax is also an issue.

Although given how little you will be making if you stay with GS you might actually earn so little you actually get a break. Here in Australia if you make less than $6k a year I believe you don't pay anything.

    69.3c - 30% = 48.51c for you and your team and 20.79c for GS, no ?

    Yes, I was also wondering how they got 69 - 30% = 33. Lol.

Either way, it's a huge cut from your original profits.

I think if someone with reasonable coding knowledge and skills looked at the inside of a project this would be pretty easy to work out. Maybe that's one of the reasons they want to submit for us, they know it's pretty easy and they don't have to send us the shoddily secure app file anymore.
