I woke up this morning to see that Carlos Icaza, co-founder of Ansca Mobile, posted on my website...

http://photics.com/gamesalad-to-corona-conversions

That should show Gendai Games how highly competitive this market is. GameSalad Direct is creating opportunities for their competitors.

they are very good people...you only have to watch a few of their videos and read the way they deal with folks (sometimes tricky) on their boards to realise they are genuine developers with a passion for social gaming.

Haha, I guess the word is spreading fast through the relatively small community of mobile app developers. By the way, that was a nice blog post.

Wow, he went to your site and contacted you... I am impress... I think I even dreamed about all this hole situation... I just woke up and before even make me a coffee, I came here to check if they had say anything, but not a word...
And you post this and for me is like a revelation, something different, something fresh...
I am going to download corona now. I can see they have a free trial. I still have 8 more month of my GS subscription so that will give also 8 month to lear it.
Thank Photic, this has given me something, not what I wanted but what I needed.

Great work Photics.. I might have to join you in taking advantage of this "revelation" ;)

Can I ask why you have narrowed it down to Corona and not Unity. I have been deliberating over the two, and they both have their positives..

I think it would be very beneficial for us all to come together and create an "examples resource" to help us all understand how we should do things in corona that we so often used in GS.

From what I've read, it seems that corona is easier to program in than unity. Is this true? Cocos2D doesn't look bad either.

Corona uses Lua and Unity uses Boo, C, and Javascript?

Yeah I posted on there site and Carlos and tim both responded multiply times they seem to want to keep their customers happy

yeah my general impression of the corona people is that they are a lot smaller team yet take the time to talk to the community and help out. The GS teams excuse that they are too busy is just that, an excuse. Trying apples secretive approach really doesn't work for them, they just seem aloof and a bit arrogant.

Ps photics I'm waiting for ur getting started with corona book lol

I reckon we could bring life into the Corona forums if all of us "serious" developers joined up over there..

The people in this community are great, and the togetherness is amazing.. It's not something that we should let go of because of this shitstorm..

I'm starting to feel like Corona might be the best option for most of us, and I'm sure that a good deal of us joining them will greatly improve what is already looking to be a great development tool.

I'm in full support of Corona as an option.

It looks the most promising - as well as the easiest to learn.

The most important thing right now, I think, is not letting our community die. I think we have a good chance of keeping things going over at Corona as they seem, all in all, like a far superior group of people than, well, GS.

I'm pretty sure they wont make us give up our names.
  • Rob2Rob2 Member Posts: 2,402
absolutely...there is a bit of space over at Corona..I think some of us would get a bit buried at unity (but I do think both are great). And Corona is incredibly quick and smoooooth.

I'm in.. I think we should make a central code base for us all to add to and use for learning Corona.. I think it would greatly help us to learn as quickly as possible.

I really have to say that I am impress... I went to their community and their are talking about what is going on here and the welcoming by their staff is incredible. It really brings me hope into all this. in less than 10 minutes over there I has seeing more interaction from the staff members that in 4 months here...
After our reaction to yesterday's news I really thought that the first thing in the morning that I was going to see here in the forum was an answer from GS, but it still the same, nothing and that makes me feel unappreciated and after having felt that welcoming from Corona, the complete opposite feeling...
I cant believe I am going to say this... I am moving to Corona... Wow

I've already picked up an eBook PDF on programming in Lua. After all, it IS the de facto language of game development, and learning it will only look good on my resume for future endeavors.

I'm also glad I bought Corona when it was at its prerelease price. Gonna download the final Game Edition now and check it out.
  • jstrahanjstrahan Member Posts: 498
yeah wish i had bought back then but had a bad week at work and had to keep the lights on so wasnt able to take advantage of the discounted price

Corona is more similar to GameSalad and Flash than Unity. I think that the transition is less dramatic. Also, the Corona team also seems to see the importance of a GUI interface. GameSalad uses Lua and Box2D. Corona could implement a similar approach.

-- Corona appears to be excellent on performance.
-- Corona also has a good community.
-- Corona is not as expensive as Unity, especially when thinking about future Android support.

I was thinking about setting up the forum for Mobile development discussion. Are people still interested in that?

Ha... a book about Corona would be significantly more difficult.

I've gone with Corona too, just spent the day learning it and it's soooo much easier than I think. I'm not sure it'll be that much longer to create a game than GS

Simple communication in a timely manner can speak volumes.

I think Gamesalad has spoken with their silence.

I'm beyond annoyed that they couldn't even post something after yesterday's aftermath.
  • reddotincreddotinc Member Posts: 653
@butterbean you going to join us and make the move over to the "promised land"? :)

Since posting that, I have been researching A LOT, and have decided that Corona is where we want to turn to now. I definitely think a forum with GOOD features will be excellent for us all to help each other out.

I was able to download both the standard and game editions this morning, but I am a subscriber already, could that be the issue?

I'm also heading to Corona. Should we just post on Coronas forums? I would like to learn to program in it with you guys. Should we use Photics'? Just trying to figure out where to scatter too.

I plan to move over there, whilst waiting for Gamesalad to come out of their coma, and tell us what's really going on, & hope they come to their senses, or they're losing valuable customers as we speak.

I tried downloading the trial, but it took me to the payment option.

Anyone else have any issues downloading the trial version?

i created a little simple place for everyone thats changing software can post their experiences.
this way we wont loose contact if one is going corona, and the other is going unity, etc.

I just registered a new domain name that will host a blog and forums for all game development platforms. It'll take a day for the name to process (it's a surprise) and I want some of you guys to moderate it. I'm working on it to be iPhone-friendly, too.
