Celebrating my last few months of freedom...

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
I have about half a year left on my GS subscription

To celebrate I have decided to remove any existing apps i have on the app store.
I am doing this because I want to use these last months of freedom to the fullest and do as much work as I can. I want to start making some quality apps, invest some real money in them, and the first step in doing so is to start off all new.

So am I correct in thinking that 1.all these "new changes" won't really effect us until our current membership subscriptions expire? Also 2. will we have to now go thru a GS approval revue on top of apples? And lastly 3. Is 30% the official % taken out by GS from our app or is that jus speculation ? If so 30% seems extremely steep. I understand it's a business and I'm using they're tool to create my product so 5% seems a bit more acceptable not welcomed but begrudgingly acceptable

    Thanks

    1. Yes
    2. Probably, but not official
    3. Not officially confirmed, that's just a random number

    1. New changes WILL affect current subscribers, the only difference is that we will not have to pay GameSalad to submit our game to them until our license expires.

    2. Unknown, only speculation

    3. Just a random %, nothing official.

    Correct me if I'm wrong

    More accurately:

    1. Absolutely
    2. No information has been given
    3. No information has been given

Basically the ONLY thing we know for sure is that you have until your current subscription is up the ability to CHOOSE between the new and old method. Other than that...It's a waiting game.

I'm holding my breathe. Before I entirely dismiss GameSalad, I think I will at least evaluate the new license once official details are out. But, in all honesty, GameSalad does need to stick with the old licenses or at least give an option. If this is an option then both sides of the coin will be happy.

Let me correct you as you're wrong ;)

1 and 2: Existing subscribers will not have to do ANYTHING different. They will not have to be published by GS, go through an approval process, pay a royalty or pay submission fees. GS Direct does not affect you AT ALL until your licence runs out.

    3. 30% is random number somebody used as an example. It may *be* 30% - I don't know! But until confirmation is given, nobody knows what figure they might settle on.

    Hope that helps,

    QS

You are in a very very good position here.

I'm hoping that they give current members the opportunity to at least buy the express version before the next update. That would seem fair to me.

That would make a huge difference to people who were just about to renew but now can't and I expect many folks would stomach a price hike for express so giving GS a nice cash inject.

one other question i had also was . I have a friend who was going to buy an express membership on Friday . if he does this now will he still be subject to the "new policy" or or will he be able to go thru the next year and have to decide to change over after his subscription is up also. in other words could he buy it now and sneak in before the change?Has the new policy actually gone into effect already. I would think not since they haven't released any documentation on pricing to upload and no one would sign up for that site unseen.
