Leaving GameSalad & Account Giveaway

Hey there,

Due to the new GameSalad Direct announcement I've decided I do not want to work with Gendai and its product/service any longer.

I do not want to invest in something that can drasticly change without warning.

GameSalad Direct will hinder both Gendai and all of the GameSalad developers.

I cannot have my brandname, I cannot change prices, I cannot get paid directly. That is TERRIBLE.

In my opinion it is the worst change Gendai could make for the developers (other than taking all of the developer's money and running, that is).

In light of these changes I'm leaving GameSalad. I've had more success with Corona. It is reliable, and frequently updated.

If you'd like my GameSalad Account (which is Express and is good until January) please leave a post here with your email and why you'd like the account.

    You are correct:
    it may change you never know.

    That quote sums up my decision perfectly.

    I simply can't work with a product that has no definite roadmap and can change on a dime.

    I would be interested if you do definitely leave but as tshirtbooth I wouldn't mind if you did want to keep it if the update is amazing ;)

    I want it because at 15 I aint loaded! Plus I want to establish my brand at a young age :)

    There is truth in that statement as well, however nearly all of the companies I work with clearly state what will happen many months in advance if there is a large change. Also, if there is overwhelmingly negative reponse to said statement they will reconsider it (which Gendai might, I do not know).

    For example, people have been asking for a pause functionality since GameSalad was first released. Instead of implimenting pause they work on other aspects like GameSalad Direct which, although -could- be a good thing, mostly affects the developers negatively.

    I cannot work with a company that doesn't put its customers (us) first.

I'm to poor to afford one and yet I've been using GS for about 8 months. :D That being said, I don't know what GameSalad would think of this (I doubt they would take lightly), and I don't really know what the situation is with the GS account being linked to the apple DEV account. Is it easily changeable?

    I certainly don't want to do anything against the GS T&C's.

    I agree in that it is somewhat a warning, but warnings should typically be months in advance for major changes like this, and should not sound so "definite".

    If it is against the Terms I will gladly follow them.

    However I am not looking to gain anything from giving this account away - I don't see how it harms Gendai in any way.

    Gendai Games reserves the right to change its fees and billing methods at any time, provided that if you pay a yearly subscription fee for the Gendai Games Services, Gendai Games will provide you with notice of any changes to the fees or billing methods at least thirty (30) days in advance by posting notice of such changes on or through the Gendai Games Services.

    where was our 30-day notice before the yellow postie?

    Triple, if you do decide to leave I would LOVE to have your account. It would really help me get my game out there ASAP, since I can't even buy any type of membership anymore.

    Brilliant.... We can probably take the yellow post as the 30 day notice.

    so no one get your hopes up of seeing the actual engine update for the next month.....

    So we should have had 30 days before the chance to refresh our express accounts was cut off?

    They didn't mind someone selling an account a while back and they are not linked to your apple dev status

    I wouldn't jump the gun just yet, and give your account away. They haven't finalized the details, and haven't told us 100% of what's going on.

    And they could possibly (minute possibility) be altering a few things.

    I would wait, but again, I understand where you're coming from, and not hearing anything after dropping a bomb like that can be frustrating.

    ...or upgrade to pro before the 30 day cut-off? Wow... that's an interesting find. Perhaps Gendai Games should give existing subscribers a chance to modify or renew their accounts.

    This is actually part of a good compromise. At the least, it would slow the exodus. Existing subscribers would be here at least a year. After a year, people might actually like GameSalad Direct® or maybe Gendai Games would realize that the subscription model shouldn't be abandoned.

    i paid but never got any notification... that said i have an account till next year september so i am going to see how things go and play with other tools as well

    Where does it tell you your expire date? Is it the date I see on your profile page (joined january...) cause the weird thing is I purchased in December last year (when it went on $79 special) yet my join date says April 14 2010 - strange.

    Have you checked to see if it is transferable under the terms of service agreement?

    Not shooting anything down by any means.

    Just worth a quick check to make sure.

    actually what Gendai Games told you in the Terms of Use that you agreed to is that you have an account that is automatically renewed!

    I think the yellow post was the start of the 30 days that's why we haven't had any more info as they are within the grace period and that would explain why no prices have been posted yet.

    Is renaming the company to Gamesalad from Gendai Games a way to get out of the 30 day notice period? Personally Im going to carry on with my GS projects as normal until all the details are released, then if the figures aren't good, I'll look elsewhere after xmas, I still have 6-7 months left on my membership yet.

    I would like to have your GS account. After 2 month I finally finished my little App, paid Apple for the Developer Account ($99 plus tax) and then wanted to sign up for GS Express only to find out that it no longer existed.
    After having a lot of fun with GS and thanks to all the people who helped me out along the way
    and buying Photics book I am left with nothing. Bummer.

    Well, from what i understand from the statement they did make was that people could sit out their existing membership AFTER which it will turn into the new agreement.. obviously if this also spontaneously changes and is not the case i'l have to ask my self what i'm doing and who for...

    This is a worry for sure. I have my account on here and my company account on here.. Both my Company and I have a brand and both of us are extremely worried that we will now have no control on our products.
    We have Apple Dev accounts for a reason and were using this platform under the impression that we would NOT be having to pay royalties to GameSalad.
    My company and I both wish to be able to track our sales freely and transparently and would like to retain our hard earned 70%

    I think also that having no ability to have our games directly accessible in the App Store and to only be available in a GameSalad publisher wrapper (ala comixology style) is highly restrictive to our games exposure to the greater iOS customer community.

    Where are the details GS??
    Why are the rumours flying and no one from GS actually giving the real facts about the "new" regime?

    In my opinion it is the worst change Gendai could make for the developers (other than taking all of the developer's money and running, that is).

    I still have 11 months to go on 2 accounts.
