Ok, this is a wild subject to speculate on... but just for fun, what do you guys think? Is all this secrecy because GS is in talks with Apple? Are we gonna find out tomorrow that they became partners?
I think it's the only reason I could excuse their behaviour - knowing how secretive apple is.

Doubt Apple would partner as they have 500 engineers who can create a dev suite "chop-chop". I have been there and presented IP to their top guys....it's a special place...they are real wizards.

I think a paradigm shift is coming to the app market.
Has anyone thought that ''they'' at GS know something about a new apple rule to clean up the crAPP in the store.
My new guess is that apple is moving towards a publisher only type store, and if that is the case we will all be ahead of the game.
Just a thought
Plus, if apple required everyone to go through a publisher, not only would it severely lower the amount of apps in the app store, it would send all their developers to competing platforms such as Android. And while there are a lot of "crappy" apps out there, there are also a pretty significant chunk of great apps made by individual developers.
Apple has stated several times that iOS is better for not only for consumers, but for DEVELOPERS. Switching to a publisher-only system would give platforms like Android that "developer-edge" in a world where the developers are ultimately what made the appstore into the huge success it is today.
As far as Apple partnering with GS and it being revealed tomorrow, I'm almost CERTAIN that's not going to happen. While I don't believe it would happen either way, the only small minute chance of that being announced at an Apple event would be at WWDC (a developer's event)... and from what I understand, tomorrow's event isn't a developer's event, it's to give a preview of the new Mac OS X, probably some new software, and maybe even a new Macbook Air.
Just my two cents.
If you want your music on iTunes, as an independent label, you either have to submit via a distributor (like in the old days of getting your records into the shops), or go via a 3rd party affiliate mp3 store...for 1 thing, it's a form of self governing quality control. An affiliate or a distributor won't take on your stuff if it's not up to scratch.
So it's not out of the realms of possibility that they could employ a similar methodology in regards to the app store.
knowing apple they are going to re-invent this app thing again just as the Android / Blackberry market is trying to copy it.

but I could be wrong...
