Hey everyone, this is the first game i made with gamesalad. Its called Border Patrol Stick Sergeant. Just looking on some opionions weather you guys think its promiseing or not. Heres a quick video link. Thanks!
Here is my honest feedback, this is because I want to see GS games do well, not because i am trying to be nasty.
The ideas seem good as does the various different gameplay types.
I think the issues are more in the presentation. Although stick people drawings should be basic they can still look slick and well drawn, these ones look a bit amateurish, also more animation frames are needed for every movement, explosions look strange and things just seem to disappear. I couldn't work out the first 2 times through why there were half bodies floating in the sky, then I realised they were supposed to be in the water. The wobble on the helicopter looks like a graphical glitch and the stock GS fonts on the score always look unprofessional.
If you are not an artist then either use a combination of paid stock images and some good photoshop skills or pay someone to do you some really good art.
Sorry to sound like such a dick but there have been a few threads talking about people's first games and GS games in general recently. If you want it to be a commercial success then it needs to look really sharp and professional. I do think the gameplay side of it looks great though.
Sparkyidr said: Looks like fun. But could deffo be improved with a bit of spit and polish. Even little things like your buttons on the title screen and stuff.
Most app sales are impulse buys, so the more attractive you can make your first impressions to the punters the better.
Definetly. This was never intended to beput on the appstore anyway. This is just what i came up with within my fist couple weeks trying out gamesalad. Im playing around with this while getting my degree in computer science, learning obj c and javascript, and working with unity. Gamesald is a ton of fun though! Thanks!
You can get away with the stick man vibe, as long as you make sure it's full of quirky character.
