Hello.

I were wondering if any of you guys make your own game graphics, if yes then what software do you use and how do you do it.

I just bought Photoshop cs5 but i only seem to be able to find tutorials on logos, text effects and stuff... nothing i can actually use!

Thx!

I use the default GS squares :3

Good investment buying CS5. If I were you I'd look up vector art tutorials, that seems to be the dominate graphic style of games at the moment

I use Flash mainly for illustration and sketching. I use Inkscape, Illustrator for touching up and redoing images with jagged edges. (Flash's smoothing is touchy - too much and you lose definition of your line, too little and you get jaggies.)

Since most of my artwork is done in Windows, I also use Pencil for animation, MyPaint for natural painting and I use an interesting program called Chaos Crystal which allows me to adjust the transparency of any window... so if I sketch something and animate it in Pencil - I don't have to export hundreds of png's and import them into flash, instead I just make Flash translucent and trace my frames.

Ironically most of my raster illustration and cartooning may never be seen on an iphone as I've cancelled some projects and put many on hold. My current 2 projects I'm building with GS use only vector graphics I made with Flash and Inkscape.

I like Pixen on Mac and it seems that this sumopaint is a pretty powerful tool that can be used on Macs as well - I'll be trying that out.

Thanks everyone, especially to you Snow, some of those programs are really amazing, especially Pixen.

But again thanks, help much appreciated!

Check out Opacity. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

Here's a video of an early version from almost 3 yrs ago:

I got a ton of cool software when I bought my wacom taboo tablet. I think it was the craft edition where you get photoshop elements and the corel painting program, not to mention a ton of other photo editing aps. Photoshop Elements has just about everything you'd want from the full version. I really haven't been limited at home with elements, and I work with the full version of photoshop professionally.

There are a lot of 2D solutions for creating your own graphics, but for me one of the easiest ways to create great graphics is to quickly build them in 3D and then render them out. That's what I did for this game controller tutorial.
