I've started making a massive rpg game and will be posting my progress here.

This is a concept image I threw together to kinda show the style of the game. Let me know what you think.

Whats your favourite rpg and why? If you have any suggestions for game content (items, enemies, puzzles... ect) post them below. I'll be adding peoples ideas to the game all throughout the development process. If your idea makes it into the final game you will be credited on it's website.

Keep checking back for updates!

I love this concept image! Character is great!

    Favorite RPG? Paper or computer?
If cRPG, than I have to choose Planscape: Torment, because of great interaction with the world,
and Arcanum, because of the great world.

    Ideas...
    1. Using bow, you can make it as small mini-game in first person perspective (check Code Monkey demo).
    2. Character - I think that you can make few characters to choose - elf wizard, human warrior etc.
    3. Interaction - it would be great if all things in game are clickable. For example:
Character is approaching the tree, when player touch it, he has few opportunities (like "Climb the tree" or "Search the tree"), so he can recive some items from the hollow, or get experience points (or strenght point) for climbing the tree.

This looks like an interesting idea. I've sort of got it in my head that my next major game after my current one will be an RPG of some sort. The only thing I would change with that character is that he resembles Link just a bit too much (from the Gameboy/DS versions). Otherwise I'll be keeping track of your progress, looks cool!

Favorite RPG is the quest series for iphone.... best game ever
  • For me the most important thing for me in a RPG is the dialog, Costume Quest being the most recent example.

Can't give you any thoughts on RP type games as I haven't play many of that type. But I do think your sample illustration is excellent. Good luck with it all. :-)

Looks REALLY nice! If I didn't know this game, and saw the art for it, I would definitely buy it on that alone, so great start!

My favorite RPG's are: Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana series, including Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Legend of Mana, a well as Sword of Mana for the GBA) they are action RPG's much like my other favorite RPG, Zelda.

I think you should lean towards the action RPG aspect, but whatever you do, this will be one fabulous game!

It looks like i can no longer edit my first post so i'll have to post updates as new posts... lame.

I'm blown away by the positive response to my concept image. I hope the final game lives up to all your expectations. =)

So far i've only added the ability to move but you can check it out here: http://gamesalad.com/game/play/90128
I'll be working on the movement animations today so that his moments are a little smoother.

@Juzcook - I actually based the character on Link but I only used that colour scheme for the concept image. His hair and clothes will change before the final release.

Sorry about that, it should work now. The background image was too big or your not allowed to have links in the description... Either way it's fixed. =P

I wouldn't recommend it... It takes a lot of work and time and the they aren't much of a money maker. But if your like me and don't care about the money then go for it, they can be a lot of fun to make as long as you can make your own graphics. ^_^

He does kinda vibrate but it's not noticeable on the iphone.

I'm sorta good with Gs... I can already do most of what I need and i'll just learn the rest.

Making this game will already be pretty tricky and bringing someone else in on the project will just make it harder, sorry. maybe on my next project. =)

my favorite RPG? if it counts, Elder Scrolls Morrowind. I liked it because you could actually play the game without having to stick to the story line. What i did one time was i became a rum smuggler and i made tons of money. If it's possible, maybe even have a couple different guilds with quests. Something that may add onto a game is customization. What i mean by that is this, make the characters customizable, like have different armor and such for the different races (if there are different races) If you need it, i can help with ideas. I don't ask for much, just an honorable mention somewhere =)

Heres an updated version of the forest scene. I've spent the last few days planning out the puzzles and dungeon content, but I won't go into much detail with that so that nothing will be spoiled.

I'll put together a short demo so that you guys can let get a feel for the gameplay in a few days.

I've put together a quick demo of how the player will use one of his weapons (bow/arrow).

You've got a great sense of depth going on, I like it. But I honestly lol'ed a little at the readheaded version of the character. Kinda looks emo. lol

Thanks, I didn't want him to look like Link so I completely changed his colours.

If anyone has suggestions on how the main character should look feel free to post them. I'm kinda considering changing him into a ninja/samurai...
  • forkliftforklift Member Posts: 386
That would depend largely on you, the designer. What setting is it in?

The ninja theme would indeed be darker and therefore fit a bit better with the feel of the current scene, but unless this one screen grab represents the mood of the entire game, I kind of like the whimsical look of the character. Stands out above the rest as well.

The only thing i'm really set on is that the player will be able to use a sword, bow, bombs and can swim/climb. I'm still working out the details of the other aspects of gameplay. =P

The weapon system looks great! When you are done is the game going to be a platform or a game with various worlds and missions (or neither?)

It's going to be a side scrolling rpg, if your familiar with Maplestory it's kinda gonna be like that.

    Like a Zelda/Mario hybrid. =P

k so an adventure game. also do u kniw how to make the game save and will there be levels?
  • BackUpAndDownBackUpAndDown Member Posts: 685
Yeah, I figured out how to save games a while ago.

The game will consist of a single massive dungeon... at least thats how I currently see it in my head.

That second image is a major improvement in my opinion, looks great!

In my opinion you should add gravity to the arrow and have a power level, that would be cool :)
