Assuming that you have a real webspace and not just like some stupid blog crap, like blogspot.com and such: Upload the file to your server with an FTP program, or the firefox plugin FireFTP (best thing since sliced bread).

After that you can just send the link to anyone.

You can also use file hosting services, like rapidshare or such.

If it is hosted by someone else (blogspot, wordpress, weebly) then really they don't want to be hosting large files. Your choices are either to get a proper hosting to be able to host your own downloads or use something like mediafire to host them and send the link to your friends.

If its for your website, just do a link and instead of linking to a site, link to a file. Example:
    < a href = " GAME . gameproj " > Download < / a > (remove spaces)
    It's that easy.

Or you can use Mediafire(free hosting)

Öhm... he is obviously not that experienced with websites, hosting and html.

You shouldn't tell him stupid things :-P

The first he would probably do, to link the file from his hard drive and then wonder, why only he can download it :-D

If you want to teach him linking, at least tell him, that the file has to be on a server (no matter if it's his own server or a hosted file on mediafire, rapidshare etc.)

Then tell him that he has to link by

    < a href = " http://yourwebsite.com/yourdirectory/filename.extension " > Download < / a >

    or if it is on the same webserver as the website, just < a href = " yourdirectory/filename.extension " > Download < / a >

signup for dropbox, you have 2GB of online storage for free that you can sync directly from a folder on your machine. The create a 'public' folder for you, where you can share files freely.

I use it to keep files synced between two computers of mine. If I drop a file into the folder from any computer, it sync's it across all of then.

If you wanna give it a try, use my referal link :) It gives me an xtra 250MB:

if its just a one off, you can use http://www.mailbigfile.com/free

you upload it to their server and it emails the link out... after a few days it gets deleted...

I've found it useful in the past...

Well of course the file has to be on the server... i kind of think he can figure that out by him self. But i guess this is what happens when you answers questions right after waking up! ;D
