Good evening.

For no reason other than some sort of Geek vanity..

I thought I'd post my details as I work on my new game idea. the wife is away for 2 days/2 nights and instead of sitting in front of the tv. I'm gonna attempt to design a new game idea, do the graphics, work out the GS maths problems and get the game submitted by 6pm Wednesday GMT.

Also need to do a full days work on tuesday and wednesday.

Oh and watch 'the Walking dead' episode 2. (See if I can design characters and watch at the same time).

Game idea currently in early stages of design, it involves a lift (elevator).

Got beer in the fridge and pizza in the oven.

Will post pics as and when they are ready...

(anyone else care to join in a 47 hour game project?)

That would be awesome, if you use Ustream or something we could really join you. =P

If I weren't almost finished with my current game, I'd say yes. In fact, I'd love to see some indie competition-type threads. If anything I think it pushes the community in all sorts of positive ways.

ok, whilst I'm thinking about it, do you know if anyone has made a cutting type tutorial. I want the user to be able to swipe to cup the ropes of the lift. Can think of a few ways of doing it, but simpler is best...

Very rough sketchy drawings done of

    Main menu,

    Intro sequence,

and main visual for the game.

    Time to fire up Photoshop...

I'd be interested in seeing how someone would make that work.

just dropped a whole very sloppy pizza slice on my sketches....

Edit:... ooh maybe some blood splatter would be a nice touch....

There was a demo made for the fruit ninja game... is that kinda what you had in mind?

    Ok, need game name ideas.

    Current front runner 'Lift Jumper'

    Basic concept.

To be done with sketchy (coolish) graphics.

Your man gets in a lift (elevator)
Camera pans up, user swipes to slice the cables.
Camera pans back down as you see the lift box fall down. (with cables dangling behind)
Cut to your man in falling box. with other lift passengers screaming.
To the right you can see a metre showing how far the lift has got to fall before impact.
As it nears the bottom the metre flickers and disappears.
    When your ready.
you press the screen, and make your man tuck ready to jump,
    release and he jumps.
If you time it right, he jumps as the lift smashes into the ground. Other lift riders go splat, your man lands and survives the crash (and defies true physics a little bit).

a few levels to beat, each one represents different global tall buildings. Ending with the tallest building in Dubai.

Game names and extra ideas welcome.

    What do you think?

Haha that's pretty good. Yeah, Mythbusters proved it doesn't work, but for a game, I think the idea rocks. If it's a stateside release, people will relate to 'elevator' more than 'lift'. Maybe a play on words. Don't know the copyright status, but 'hellevator madness' comes to mind. For the UK, I think lift jumper works.

    glad you like the idea...

    name ideas continued...

    how about Shaft!

i could give my main character an afro that could bounce when you jump, so you'd have a little nod to the film/series Shaft.. and link to elevator shaft...

    ok...the night is moving on...

done lots of drawings... scanning in now.

Game is possibly bigger than I first intended, but we'll see how far I get by wednesday evening.

Hindered slightly by the volume of wine... and have moved to the lounge to watch 'SuperBad' love this film.

Ok after some very good intentions... I think this project is going to fail...

    - As I'm getting more excited about this game idea, otherways to make it bigger and better have crept in, and if I can stay enthusiastic enough I want to do the graphics really nicely and go out and get some photos for textures.

    - Second reason - I've been invited out for beer tonight... and since the wife and baby are away it would be rude to say no.

    - I'll how much I can get done and post the results...

If only I could convince my bosses at work to let me make games for them, I'd not have the problem of not enough hours in the day....

Reading back through this thread, it sounds like I have a drinking problem. It's honestly one of those rare moments of free time and no baby to look after. So I've got that dilemma of do I get drunk, make a GS game, or get some really good sleep. Yesterday I pretty much achieved all three, tonight, I'll do the drunk bit first and see if the other two happen whilst I'm drunk.
