Displaying text after collecting an item

Hello,
I'm new with Gamesalad and I would like to know how to display a text on screen (middle of screen) when collecting an item.
Ex; you got the item then it display : "You just got the fire missile" and the text disappear after 2 sec. I know to do that with a timer but cannot figure how to display a text when collecting an item.
