destroying other actors?

sorry if this has been asked before but I ant find anything about it. Is there a way to destroy other actors when working within one? For instance I habe a window that opens up and I want atouch on an x in th corner to kill both the x and the window. I could go through a lot of effor in creating a variable that hanges when I press the x and destroy it and the window will notice the variable change and then destroy but that could be very time consuming. Any ideas?
