provisioning profiles expiry

Hi my dev profiles for my apps have expired, i renewed them on apples site and redownloaded (imported to itunes). however my games still say that the provisioning profile has expired.
do you need to re build the apps? or do you need to remove profiles from the device (if so does anyone know how?)
any ideas?
