What type of mac do you use?

Hi all,

I'm looking to start making games with Game Salad, but I've never used a mac before. Any recommendations on what to get?

I'd like to stay with a laptop if at all possible. Does anyone use the 13" Macbook Pro? Is the screen large enough?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly you will only have trouble getting screen shots of iPad size apps when using the GS screen shot function. Otherwise all good

Don't get the 13 inch. Get an imac, either 21.5 inch or 27 inch. the 21.5 inch is cheaper then the macbook pro (depending on specs) and is much better if you're using it primarily for game development/design. I am working on a 13 inch macbook right now, and is very painful. When I get my 27 inch imac, I wont even touch gamesalad on my macbook anymore :)

I am extremely happy with my 15 inch. However I do a lot more than just game salad. I have a lot of other interests as well!

I use a 15" MacBook Pro, however I'll be switching to an iMac soon with any luck - I wouldn't use a 13", that's a little too small IMHO.

27" iMac with snow....i would h8 to use a 13" to develop games and i have GS on full screen a lot of the time when working in the scenes.

    I would go for a 20" + iMac or Mac Mini with a 20" + monitor.

3 year old 13" white mac book running snow leopard... stills works a treat...untill the limited resolution gets you if you decide to make an ipad game... (an external monitor can solve this though)

I use a MacBook pro 13" and works great for me (I have used that size for like the last 5 years though so I'm used to it)

13" for me as well cause I need a laptop. But can just use an external monitor as stated above.

    I have MacBook Pro 13".

If you already have a monitor buy the VGA, DVI, OR HDMI connector, and Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Then you can use the MBP with an external monitor (plenty of screen real estate) at home and still be able to take it with you and work from anywhere if you want.

I've used a MacBook Pro, 17 inch, for the last few years, but now I have a 13.3 inch MacBook Air, and it's my favorite machine ever. I did also get a 27 inch LED lit Cinema display, so my plan is to use that at work, with the Air closed, and then just take the Air home at night. I also bought the wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad. It's a very nice combination of gear.

I use Snow leopard on a 10.1" netbook. So while it would be great for me to upgrade to a 13" macbook. I truly wish i could have a screen 4 times the size.

I'm running Snow Leopard in vmware on a win7 host (i7 w/4gb of ram)

I give the Mac vm 2 cores and 2gb of ram, it runs gamesalad pretty well.

I do exactly the same as Moto, MPB 13" 8GB Ram with Momentus XT HD, runs great! Plus external screen connected through the HDMI adaptor and the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse and it is great to build games with.

I'm using a macbook pro 13" and yes, it's very small for GS.
15 or 17" is the minimum I think.

If you have money, buy an iMac.

    What I did was...

Purchased a used Mac Mini (dual core) off ebay, great condition, $320.

Purchased 2GB of DDR2 Ram specifically for the model, for $40 off the internet!

    Installed it myself, very carefully

Purchased Snow Leopard, installed and updated

Once that was done, I hooked it to my 42" HDTV, just like my PC, and used just a regular keyboard and mouse.

For under $400 I made a mac that is specifically for the use of development and rivals most newer macs running at 2.4GHz, for under 1/3 the price of a new one.
