Well, something is finally happening, but the splash screen just will not work for us.
We started rebuilding a project in Flash CS5 as soon as a the GS Direct mess was announced, and frankly, I'm not at all happy with the performance so far. (At least it's not a game app). We were starting to consider going back to GS in recent days, but the splash screen is a non starter. And advertising? No way. I hate to hear this, very disappointing.
On the plus side, I've learned a lot about Action Script in recent weeks... although I can't say I've enjoyed it.
Keep in mind they have not given all information! It is very possible that there are more features to be announced with the actual release, and some of these idea's are just speculation right now!
Thanks for sharing the info! Great to have at least a small dosage!
Well it's nice to finally be getting some information at last... It's a shame it's not coming direct from GameSalad. shame on them for releasing details like this again... It's the GS Direct announcement all over again.
If what Im reading is true, and this is the shape of the 0.9.0 build, then quite frankly I don't think it's been worth the delay and all the hassle. Obviously we need to see what the realities of the build and new publishing model are for certain once they get their official release.... but from what Im reading its not sounding too great.... again.
loading times and memory management are exactly what i was wanting to hear. this could mean my major project might run smoother on more than just the 3gs and above! that being said, its nice to know theyre working on gamecenter, that will be EXTREMELY helpful and give our games a bit more lastability. i was hoping to maybe have the gs splash removed somewhat, but it doesnt bother me terribly at this stage whether it stays or goes
wish they couldve told us all this themselves though, but hey im just happy to know its finally coming out!

They should look no further. I can work for them creating game development resources. I already wrote a GameSalad textbook, the first sound effects project should be released today and I'm just getting started. I think I could work with GameSalad on such a project. I'll just have to be in the New York Satellite office. HA HA... that's my house!

Where did you find the tutorial for FlashCS5 on iPhone?
Neverbe said: Where did you find the tutorial for FlashCS5 on iPhone?
labs.adobe.com have a few very basic instructions on how to use the "packager" (actually, much easier than GameSalad's for generating the ipa file, but there is very, very little in the way of tutorials. Adobe stopped all work on the iPhone packager as soon as Apple slammed the door late last year. They are back on it now, but way behind... no retina display, etc, but I'm confident they will be back in a big was with the next update.
It's really just flash development for the most part, but it's all ActionScript 3, which is a big change with Flash. It used to be easy to add actions to buttons, movie clips, etc., but with AS3, you have to hand code EVERYTHING. There are a lot of tutorials and books on AS3, and I've gone through many, many of them.
Guys, Like John said, some of that stuff he mentioned is speculation (advertising, store, etc)
We talked about a roadmap, the issue on posting one, is, as y'all know, things change and/or happen, and they don't want to give us false hopes an/or have them committed to it; from what they told us, we know that game center is on plan among other things, but not necessarily for 1.0.
The number one most important thing is memory management and tool stabilization. Everything that we have been asking for will eventually make the list (they are listening), but programming takes time and they have to find a way to implement it on a 'drag n drop' behavior kinda way and that is flexible and portable for future releases (believe me, this ain't easy coding).
John, it was also great meeting you, maybe next time we can get together to review each others projects.
To all, as always, don't read too much into it and just wait until official release soon.

Forklift: As far as I can gather, some people (non-Gendai) are saying no, others yes. If Gendai do add a publishing option though, it'll be just that, an option, leaving game developers to go into Apple app store only, as usual, if wanted. I guess we'll wait to see...doesn't sound as though it'll be too long now...
I like this news, but I do have some problems with it.
1) If the advertising is forced, then no thanks. I do not want a crap game being promoted. Even if the ads promote a GOOD game, it is MY game, NOT GS's. (let's face it, there are only a handful of good games made by GS.)
2) WHAT? Publishing a roadmap gives us false hope? Then I guess Corona is giving false hope, along with all the major companies that do publish roadmaps. Without a roadmap, I cannot support GS; as I have no idea what may be included down the road, which can be a nightmare in some cases. (may "x" feature be included? No, because there isn't a roadmap, in that case, I can't plan to make games, or at least create rough drafts of games that include "x" feature.)
tshirtbooth said: I can not believe these comments. No matter what they do its like people will never be happy. Just be thankful that GS direct is gone and you get to publish your own games.

Roadmaps are a tricky thing.
Software development *always* takes longer than you plan for it to. It's just the way it is. People here get jumpy when a deadline's missed by a day.
Gravitrixx started out as a one day project, inspired by StusApps ability to make a game in a day.
That one day turned into a week. Then a month. Then two months.
If I'd announced it two months ago when we started, I'd be very late by now, eh?
Giving vague info, or keeping quiet, is a way to mitigate that, but it has its own problems (perceived lack of direction/communication).
It's not ideal. But I understand GS will attempt to give us more info about what's coming up in future.
if they add an in-scene pause feature, I will be both happy and also a little pissed.... lol. I have spent a good part of the past few days developing my own in-scene pause feature for the game that I am working on. So now, I will either need to continue to use my pause system for this game, or I will have to go back through the whole project and change it all to take out the pause/not-paused behaviors and pause timing mechanisms that I have created.
oh well....
Thank god it's finally going to be released.... and I'll be happy to finally hear the actual details of the terms of memberships, etc.
Kudos to the hard working chaps in the trenches at Gendai who are getting all this done. Lots of hours put in lately by them, I am sure.
At this point... I will take anything! as long as the memory leak is fixed and I don't have to go with Direct.
I would like all the native iOS fonts...but even if we just get some variety, that's okay. I would like a Z axis to enable better display and control of selected actor...but not having that is okay.
Thanx for posting @dotsonj23 and rdcube... and TSB!
Thats what im saying. They should try coding a game with open gl, 99% of them will come running back to gamesalad with there tail between there legs. No offense was meant to anyone, it just seems some people always have something to complain about.
