Timer problem

Hi, say I have two touch hotspots, both including the following rules amongst others:
When touch is released
Timer
For 3 seconds run to completion checked
Change attribute game.Textdisplay To something
Timer
After 3 seconds run to completion unchecked
Change attribute game.Textdisplay to (a single space)
And in the actor to display the text,
Display Text game.Textdisplay
THis sort of works except for the following:
Say I click on the first one, and then click on the second within the 3 seconds, the text is replaced as it should, but this second lot of text doesn't appear for 3 seconds, it appears for only the remaining time that the first hotspot didn't use in it's interrupted 3 seconds. Hope I've explained that clearly enough.
I've played around with the checked/unchecked run to completions, and the way I have it at the moment gives me the effect I want... apart from the "time-stealing". anyone have any ideas on this please?
Edit: forgot to mention, the interrupt "facility" I want, so that whichever hotspot is clicked, no matter how fast, that becomes the new text. If any are left for three seconds, they go blank anyway.
