Some free promotion for you, hopefully ^-^;

Alright, this is still a while of actually being ready, but basically I'm making an application that will be like Free App A Day or, erm, whatever the OpenFeint daily free game one is called.

So right now I need to amass a list of fellow developers who would be interested in having one or two of their games featured while free for a day at some point over the next few months.

At this stage, if you are interested, I'm asking you shoot me a quick email to my name here @gmail.com with a link to your app/s page on the Apple site. (Http not itm please :P)

In doing so you are guaranteed a spot, provided your app is a game or an exceptional app from another category.

This isn't some paid thing, it will be a free app promoting other free apps and is just basically a way to offer a little love to my fellow devs.

I hope to hear from you soon, even if your email only contains a link :)

PS - Please don't mail me if you aren't willing to make your app free for whatever day you end up being assigned in the near future, thanks :)

Nice try, but absolutely no sense in it.

Don't get me wrong, but if I would want to make such a free app a day promotion, I would stick with the existing ones.

To be honest, I have tried it twice and it does nothing good.

It has absolutely no sense to make your app for free a day, because it doesn't boost your sales. It makes it even worse.

Believe me, I tried with Assault Commando, which had 10-20 downloads a day and when it was free, it got 70.000 a day. After putting it back to paid, it was 10-20 a day again.

Even if the sales raised a bit for the next 2 days, it was not significant.

Making an app for free for a day is the worst promotion technique, you can imagine.

I really really encourage you all to read the http://www.iphonedevsdk.com forums to learn about marketing. No offense, but this forum is nice for exchanging tips with GS, but if you want to learn something about appstore, marketing and such, visit that forum.

    Well, that depends really.

I posted this here as well as a few other places, but the idea originally came to mind as being something especially useful for people who have apps that use GameCenter, Facebook Posting, Facebook Leaderboards, OpenFeint or what have you - the added exposure they would get from making their app free for a day would be immense.

Then there's the fact that many people DO often make an app free for a day, a weekend or a week in an effort to boost sales - sometimes with great success, other times not so much, like in your case - but the fact remains that while it's free ANY additional exposure is a good thing. When your app was free if someone had said "Want 20,000 more downloads? You don't have to do anything." I'm pretty confident that you would have said yes, maybe not, but I can't see why you'd turn it down.

Personally, I had great success making two of my apps free; one for a day, one for two - and now I am making some apps with OF and FB integration I would LOVE to get any extra exposure.

I appreciate the fact you didn't do well when making your apps free, but some people do and even those who don't will often still repeat the process when an app starts to lose momentum.

At the end of the day this is something I am hoping to do (time permitting) in the near future and I'd just like to throw it out there in case anyone here wanted a little extra promotion if they were thinking of going free for a day :)

Side note: I've actually had a bit of interest already :)

    Cheers,
    Peach

PS - Obviously I'm not thinking of anything so grand, lol, but FAAD seems to give a lot of apps a nice boost - it's a HUGE site of course but still, free doesn't always equal fail.
