Play Sound vs. Play Music will not work...

Hello All,

I am trying to use the Play Sound attribute, but it keeps saying no value. I do have two m4a's in the music tab, but the play sound will not let me add the sound. Is this a bug?

Do these have to be different file types?
Do sound clips go in a different place than music?

Thank you.

There's no bug as such here, just what could be called an "oversight". Basically, if you add the Play Sound Behavior before putting in the sound in the Audio well, it will not recognise it's there.

THe solution is to delete the Play Sound Behavior and then put another one there. Then you'll find your sound in the list.

    hope that helps! :-)

Edit: hang on, just reread your post, understand what you're saying now! :-)

mp4 format is for music only, which you'll find if you use a Play Music Behavior. Play Sound uses .ogg files, used with the Play Sound Behavior. When you drag in a soundfile into the Audio well, GS gives a dialog box for you to choose which format you want: mp4 for stuff over 30 seconds, ogg vorbis for stuff less than 30 seconds.

    Hello,

Yep, I just figured it out. You beat me to my just figured it out post. The .ogg file works just fine.

Does anyone know of a good .ogg converter for Mac OS X? Right now I am using Switch.

    Thank you very much.

Hi, amongst quite a few audio editors, there's Audacity, which I believe is free, or Amadeus Pro, which I use (can't remember how much it costs though).

It looks like you can drag in mp3 files and GS will convert it to an .ogg for you.

That is correct ... I just did that yesterday :)

Audacity, Yep...I have it. I didn't know it exported to .ogg. I was hoping Soundtrack Pro would.

    Thank you.

It certainly does, GamersRejoice, but if you want to cut down on sound file size if you've a lot of them, it's recommended to use an audio editor to convert stereo sounds into mono where possible, as well as setting the rate to 128 kbps; and you might as well convert the sounds to ogg while you're at it!

    Good to know, thanks.
