What do you think about glossy icon? Do you like it, or do you prefer standard icon? I noticed that the biggest part of games I own, doesn't have glossy app icon.

No I don't like the glossy icon, and the app store seems to be trending away from it. Sometimes it can dull the picture, or block part of the icon where it would look better without.

So in a nutshell, say no to the gloss!

I've been wondering the same, think I'm going to go non gloss for my next icon. if you do make it with gloss I think you need to design it with that in mind, eg, make the top section a bit darker to lessen the washed out effect!

Yes, I think it adds to the uniformity of apps... part of the unity that defines iPhone apps. IMO

    +1 NO Glossy Icon

Def washes out icons. You lose a lot of it's brightness. And brightness is good. U want it to stand out.

It is a design style. Some icon designs would be crap without gloss...it is built into the design idea from the very beginning. like if you want it to be a plastic or glass button. On the other hand ask Van Gogh if he'd like to have the glossy button effect on his paintings..

Of course I knew! just trying to revive a dead issue from obscurity...the glossy icon option in GS by default should be unchecked. couldn't resist my temptation to speak to myself in writing!!
