So I've got a problem that is well over my head and I really need some help from an expert here. I have a circle that rotates when you press and drag on it. What I'm trying to do is spawn a collision wall around it with a hole at the top so the collision wall rotates with the movement of the circle.

If that makes sense at all to you and you'd like to help me out give me an email to send it to, I think I've got it really close and I can send you a small GS file to edit.

Please someone help me on this one this is my last big hurdle, I'm very confident I can finish my game after this hang up. Thanks

I think he means a circular "fence" with an opening. But he wants the "fence" to rotate and the opening needs to rotate with the fence. Sounds like trig to me

    Ahhhhhhhh!

Something like the goalies in eaguirre's demo?

    HockeyInTheCircle Demo

(It's downloadable if that's what you need.)

Hi guys, it's a lot like the HockeyInTheCircle Demo (which I think you showed to me in the first place Jack, so thanks for that) but it's more than that. I've looked at that already and it has helped me get as far as I have, I just can't seem to get the collision circle or fence like scitunes said to follow the rotation of the circle.

    So this image should help:

So the brown ring rotates like I want and it spawns all of the collision walls on the right. I can't get the rings to stay that way and rotate with the brown ring.

I can't tell if that center piece is moving with everything else, but ya I think that's the idea

I have made a rough circle using my method but i will say it's a bloody pain to position the actors (that's why i scrapped the project through lack of being able to place actors freely).

If this is what your after send me a mail to toyboxuk[at]hotmail.com and i will send you the file.

I'm pretty busy with my game atm so won't be able to offer much in support but i think you will be able to work out how its done.

I would also probably try constraining the actors to cos and sin.

So this is as far as I've been able to take this little prototype, if you download the file here:

    http://www.gamersrejoice.com/files/rotation-help.zip

you can see what I mean. I have it soooo close I feel like there is just something I'm not seeing to make it work perfectly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Anybody? Please? I've got the rotation working for both the circle and the collision border, they just aren't quite syncing up right.

Don't know if you figured it out yet but try this:

Thank you so much JackBQuick! What did you have to change exactly? It almost looks exactly the same, was I close? Seriously I can't thank you enough.

You were close -- I didn't have to change much.

What you did was try to constrain the individual rotations (around the centre) of your collision orb actors to touch. However, you already had the rotational change of proto ring smaller saved as Target Rotation.

So, I saved collision orb's original rotation and added Target Rotation to make it follow proto ring smaller.

Good luck with the rest of your project!
