quick question???

im about to register for an apple dev account and should i register as an individual or as a company? its just me and my friend making games he does the art work and i do the game salad stuff, :) were making games as a hobby but in the future we would like to start a company, should i register as an indvidual for the first year and test it out? and is the process of making your bussiness a painfull process? (like registerting your name and etc)

    You cant register as a company unless you are a real company. LLC, inc. and ect. You have to give apple your company tax info and everything.

    And for the second question, im not sure where you live, but im in new jersey im in the proccess of filling my llc to become a legitimet company, and ive paid about 700 dollars so far and stil have to pay more.

    wow John, $700? I am not sure but I think it should be WAY less than that .... here in Canada it's about $260 if i recall that right.

    The only pain is that once you are a business, you have to pay an accountant to do his/her magic which is not cheap!

    Well im in New Jersey, so unfortuatlly taxs are crazy here. 400 of that 700 was just filling taxes for nj. I guess thats to b expected though, since its $1500 for a 1 bedrooom apartment here LOL

    wow John... that's a lot of money...

    incidentally... you can be a business in the USA with just using your name ...
    for ex: we have Hoose House and that needed no paperwork... and Hoose House, LLC which needed paperwork and fees. (and, if anyone wants to send me a check in the name of Mother Hoose, I can cash it without any problems! ;D

    so if ???, edward, and ??? want a bank account and legal use of their names... they should take it to the bank.
    think that they can use their name with Apple as long as the bank account and SS# are valid.

    the government's main concern is that they know the vital facts about a company for taxes and consumer safety.

    you can also file a doing-business-as -- or doing business under an assumed name or doing business under a fictitious name -- certificates with your State (the title depends on the State) which cost from $35-$100 (again depends on the State) -- give your company ability to set-up bank accounts and pay taxes!

    @edward01 ... I am registered with Apple under MotherHoose an individual... (as I have been for years) ... my stuff for iTunesConnect is under that name and associated with HooseHouse, LLC... so you can register your name and use your group name; and later if you sell enough to afford it... associate yourself with a company.

    This actually sounds like Norway. Ridiculous expensive to live here.
    And the taxes is usually between 35-39% for an 1 man company. Why didn't I just become an criminal?:)

    All you need to be a company is a business license and a web site. apple doesn't care if you are an LLC. Inc. sole proprietorship, or Partnership as long as you have a business license. You can use your home address and Phone. Since there are two of you splitting money you should at the very least do a partnership otherwise one of you are going to be paying taxes on both of your income. You will also want to get a Fed Tax ID number instead of using a social since there are two of you as well.

    and ouch. In missouri its only $100 to file an LLC

    Im not sayin it has to be llc,Thats why i said ect lol. It can be Any kind of business weather it be llc, corportion, or just a reguler businesss license filled threw the state, but you still need to have some legitement business documentation. Sorry if i didnt make that clear
