edited November -1 in Announce Your Game!
Hey guys

Thought i would post a quick video of the character movement in my Work in Progress Zombie Shooter.

The animation isn't quite complete and there are no enemies etc in this video, but it shows the main movements! Also shows the graphical style of the game!

The title card is just a placeholder at the mo, as are the fonts.

cheers

EDIT-sorry for the faint TV noise in the background! Also, the video isn't as bright as the screen grab looks!

Thanks, the background etc is really just a placeholder at the moment. Mainly working on the character. decided to put my bamboo pen to use!

How do you post a vid?
P.S. If you want it to be easier naming it then take the storyline (If there is one) and combine that with a zombie scroller. From what I see right now maybe you could name it Zombie Strike or Zombie hunt because you're shooting zombies.

To add a video just past the YouTube page link in your post, it will automatically link to the video!

I was thinking of zombie "something" but can't think what the something should be. Still working on the exact storyline, but it's something like you are trying to get out the forest. still haven't decided if it should be an endless game or if at some point you can get out the forest.

Just a suggestion, I would take off the pictures that you have on the buttons. I don't even know what the green button is supposed to do by looking at the picture. Idk if its just me or what, but I personally do not like buttons having pictures on them. If you look at similar games like zombieville they just have colored buttons. Just have a Tutorial explaining how to play and you will be good. Hell kids now a days can figure it out even without a tutorial.

    Just my thoughts.

If you care for my 2 cents.
I'll start of by saying the gameplay looks pretty fun.

But the graphics look pretty dated, and home made. And as many have stated before it's really the logo and the few screenshots that sell your game.
Why not team up with a designer in exchange for points on the sales?
You can find plenty of art students or recent graduates that would help you I'm sure! They might even do it just for the credit!

That's my humble opinion. And I would have normally kept it to myself, but it looks like a really fun game, and I think with some cool graphics, you would do really well.

    Cheers for the comments guys.

the green button is to reload your gun, i think you could be right about the icons, I wasn't sure myself.

for the graphics, I have done them all myself in illustrator, so they are homemade, haha. I was thinking of sending off to someone for a quote on the graphics when i had a full graphics set done myself, just so I know I havent missed anything. but I think it's definatly something worth doing!

    Thanks!

Having a temp set for reference is a great idea!

Hiring someone might be pricy(I work in that industry). You might be able to get a junior guy to do it for 1k, or so. But hiring a studio will be expensive.

I plan on doing an exhange for points myself

I may ask Ian (debugdesign on the forums) as I know he has done work for others!
I might look down the share on profits also, thanks for the idea!

Keep the buttons as is, and make them just white & translucent. That would look very sleek.

As far as gameplay...i was too busy LMAO at the fact that the girl's mouth goes "bang" "bang" as she shoots the gun LOL! That was awesome!

Graphics are important though. Either make it "campy on purpose", or spend some money on an artist.

haha, she is meant to be shouting or something, I just wanted some kind of animation. When I have an idea of all the graphics I need I'll try and source some better graphics etc, i'm no graphic artist myself, but I'm trying to learn. These are actually good for me!haha.

To be fair, there isn't really any gameplay in the video, but should have zombies coming at you from the sides, out the ground, birds / bats from the air etc. When you kill a zombie it will release a ammo round which you touch to collect.

If the graphics cost is too much tho (im a lone ranger), I may have to go down the camp on purpose route!haha.

    Thanks for the comments guys!

Keep the "Bang" "Bang"...you have to! LOL!

Like someone else mentioned...it's all about the Logo, Screenshots, etc. As long as the game is fun, and the graphics are at least intentionally bad (thinking Doodle Jump), then it will do good.

How about "Doodle Zombie Attack"? Then you could put your Bamboo pen back to work on the doodling! :)

haha, due to the amount of time I spent on them part of me is heartbroken about the graphics, although I had always suspected I may have to fork out for better images.

Could it pass as a doodle game? I'd have to put a compulsory square grid background! :)
  • joshmiller602joshmiller602 Member Posts: 206
or the background could be like notebook paper...and when you changed scenes, the notebook paper could be crumpled up!

That sounds like an awesome game to me! LOL!

Im starting to think about this doodle inspired route now, although I swore I'd never make a game with doodle in the title, I'm sure it now puts people off because of how many there are. Then again, they do sell!

heres another short video with a couple of zombies thrown in. its not captured in as high quality so defo do not watch full screen! The background is dark because of the recording quality. I'll try doodlizing the background at some point.

Im thinking maybe Angry Doodle Zombie Attack :) (joke)

  • andrewm2211andrewm2211 Member Posts: 341
Please don't take the doodle route....

Look at Angry Birds, there graphics look clean and nice, but they aren't really anything special either.

Don't take it too badly, for someone who's not an artist they are respectable. But if they were badass, I think you would have a lot better luck.

Ive been thinking In the last hour and kind of went off the doodle idea. I've just emailed Ian asking a rough price, but I'm thinking of maybe putting it on hold anyway until I have got the money for good graphics. just need a booster app for the funds first tho!
