Possible solution to version number not changing...
This has now worked twice in a row for me to get the version number to "stick" in the publishing wizard. When entering the version number in the wizard, after typing it in, hit TAB to go to the next field. Don't click Next until you've changed the focus off of the version number field.
On the other hand, it may have just been dumb luck that it happened twice in a row, and other times when I was either unsure if I switched fields or know I didn't, the changed number didn't stick. I'm posting to see if other people have any luck if they try this..
