Does Gamesalad work for non-game apps.

Hi, I'm new to developing apps, and I have a couple game ideas, but first I'd like to try something simple, I have an idea for a utility app.

I was wondering if Gamesalad was only for games, or could possibly make simple utility apps that would track numbers. For example, like financial information where you input how much you payed, how much comes back to you, it would calculate profit/loss type thing, or push notifications that remind you of doing something at such time, etc.

If not, do any of you know of a Free non-coding application like Gamesalad that focuses more on utility apps?

Thx

    @Husky

think there are a quite a few utility apps done in GS... Game Salad enables you to make apps!
whether you code for a game or for a utility... the language is the same...

    2 examples:
    BarkBarkCo's Handy Light
    iTie

start small... cause what may seem simple... may be difficult to implement ... in any language.

A profit/loss system should be pretty easy, you'd have to make an on screen keyboard for numbers and then just simple math

I also am working on a non-game app .. however wish we had an option to choose different Gamesalad splash screens at the beginning as it make no sense in a non-game app.

Its probably been suggested before but if GS management read this .. could you create numerous versions and let the developers choose when we submit? Same splash with different colored backgrounds? Some without the tag line? etc . I believe this community is extremely supportive of your efforts and your ability to make money but some of the issues with the splash screen appear legit.

Just bought it. Found my first bug. When I finished the Visual Penetration Level, it said I got "exceptional" though it did not show the score. I noticed a corner of what looked like it was a white display box on top of a white background. No text though. Worth fixing. Also, the graphics should be MUCH better for a 39MB game with no real action.

With that said...I LOVE this game (but I'm a nerd like that). So much in fact, if you want help with Graphics or decreasing your file size let me know :).

The first thing I made (in my first week of discovering and using GameSalad) was more an app than a game.

    'Contented Baby Sleep'
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/contented-baby-sleep/id352256991?mt=8

Currently trying a high price to see if it affects the few sales I do get.

Essentially a sound board that plays various relaxing sounds to send a baby to sleep, plus I added some useful info on the subject in a scrollable info page, and then an interactive colour display that pulsed in time with a heart beat. Lots of little things learnt that made the jump to make my first game all the easier.

It taught me, the basics of game salad, adding images, sounds, the rules needed for toggle buttons, then some follow touch coordinates rules for the interactive colour display, and some simple movement rules for the scrolling menu.

I still sell a cop of Contented Baby now and again, so cant of been that bad...

As someone else points out, its a shame it starts with the 'GameSalad' splash screen. Be great if there was an 'AppSalad' alternative to choose.

Good luck with your app...sounds very do able, you could use the save functions to keep track of numbers entered, it could eventually get quite complicated...but a good learning project.

One of my best GameSalad apps isn't a game...

joshmiller602, thanks for your comments. No matter how much I test an app before releasing it, I get some bugs... damm... I will try to fix it. I guess i didn´t delete the screen capture images before uploading to gamesalad, and that has been reported to increase the app size. Graphics has been optimized, however there are mores than 115 almost full-iphone-size images.
Btw, this app shows that the 10 MB limit of gamesalad uploads is history...
