How does "updating" an app after it is in the app store, work?

Hey,
i can't believe that I'm asking this ... just a few days ago, an app in the app store would have caused me to shake my head (left / right) and walk away ...

So, I have ideas about adding stuff and changing some things to give the app a little more consistency. Do I just make the adjustments and send em in like the original app? And will Apple know what this is all about?

Also, when is an update and update and when does it make sense to just do a version two with a new look and many many extra features?

I'm very curious how these things go ...

Hey xyloFUN, here's how app updates work.

To make an update/new version of an app already available in the App Store, login to iTunes Connect, go to the Manage Your Applications module, and select the app you wish to update from the list. After doing so, towards the bottom of that page, you will see a button (I believe its on the right side of the screen) that says "Add New Version" or something like that. Click that button. It will then take you to a new page where you will fill out all the necessary fields, such as the "Whats new in this version" and the "Version Number" fields. After doing this, you will have to upload the new binary, either in iTunes Connect or Application Loader, (I can't remember which). After the new binary is uploaded, you will have to wait for Apple to review it and give the new version the all clear. Until then, your current version is still available for download. After Apple approves the new version of your app, all the people who currently own your app will be allowed to download the update for free by going to the "Updates" page in the App Store. The new version is also posted on the App Store with the same pricing as the older version, unless you change that to. Hope this helps.

    Thanks Alex,
    that seems pretty straight forward!

I made a little demo using the new renders of the trumpet and once i've added more lessons and songs, I offer an update :)
I really love the new look and hope to maybe add a menu with a futuristic TRON look (blue glow around black glass buttons)

Hi xylo; you're gonna hate me... ;-)................

There are now 2 spelling mistakes in the banner on your website, namely "instruments" (spelled instrunments) and "available" (missing the second "l").

Also in the black type block, the word "children" is missing the "n"; and "composer" is spelled "composee".

    Thought you ought to know.

There, MUCH better, and best of all, NO spelling mistakes (by no, i don't mean this post ;))

p.s. thanks gyroscope for giving me a reason to fix the banner NOW. I didn't like the menu buttons all the way up at the top so now they are where they should be!

    I owe you! ;)
