Move to grid template is finished but how much is it worth?

Looks simple but it has been my biggest challenge to date and took a lot of work.

You can use this for RPG games or any grid based games like digdug, pacman, bomberman etc.

Other Templates:

Puzzle: $50

Platform: $100 when complete, currently $50

Darren.

I think its worth a lot. My next project is gonna be grid based so I know its hard to get it all to run smooth like this.

I think you should charge more, and make it exclusive it 1 or 2 people tops.

I could actually see that being a lot more profitable

Why limit to 1 or 2 people? Im pretty sure Darren is doing these to help the community, as he puts a lot of time and effort into his templates, its only fair he charges and gets something back from it. It is after all, a template, every game that uses it should look different, we shouldnt only be changing the bare minimum. I think it is a great resource, to help explain and show people how to accomplish some really good things, its not about just buying it, changing a few pics and publishing it, it really helps understanding certain elements that a lot of people couldnt achieve on their own. The more people learn about the things on show here, the better all GameSalad games will get and that results in building Gendai's reputation. more people = more money = a better product for us all to use. Its really great what you're doing here Darren, congrats, keep it up :)

I have the platform template and have definatly learnt a thing or two, also it's good for expanding on the features already in the template, there's that many types of platformers and grid games that I don't think it matters how many buy the templates.

Dont get me wrong, I think its great darren puts in the time to set these things up and then sell a month or twos worth of work for $50-$100. Thats definitely awesome. but lets be real here the man has to make a living and a profit. It's not that theres not enough different platforms out there and so on but he could in fact sell the template for a lot more with the condition it is nearly unique either in controls or some of the game plat he has come up with. It was merely an idea someone threw out there. I couldn't ever see darren going that route anyway since he's a pretty generous guy.

Im not disagreeing with this at all, you just have to think ahead though. As much as we would like ot think everyone is as hard working as you guys, your still gonna have at least a handful of people that are gonna buy it, change the graphics, move one or two things and publish it. And having a bunch of platformers with all the same behaviors just in different places, and they all have a gamesalad splash screen, i dont see that making Gendais reputation any better.

The reason Wayne took all his templates down was because some users released to the store with little or no changes, something i had concerns about when we met earlier this year.

The main reason I'm charging a small fee is to try and stop this.

Atm i have sold 20 copies of the platformer and all the guys that have purchased are proper devs so i can't see them just re-releasing this.

I can't wait to see what they make and add to it, it even makes me want to make and release a platform game :)

I would be better if you add some enemies to the pacman template

Undoubtedly your always going to get a few users that for one reason or another abuse things. Its not just in these helpful templates, but where ever you go, where ever there are rules etc, you will have people abusing them. I guess if you're honest you just have to work that bit harder and make sure you change enough and expand in places to make yours look different and better! Its a shame Wayne took them down for that reason, i always loved him demos and found them a very useful learning tool.

I have a few ideas of games and styles i can make from this template, im probably not going to do much with them though until i know you're finished and have sent us 1.0.
