I do also love using GS. However with the new pricing plan I don't think they plan on allowing custom splashes anymore.
I do wish they would at do a joint splash where their video plays with the powered by game salad shows up but then also has our company logo on the same screen.

Im not bitching about pro options at this point since I got $99 upgrade. my tune may change though next christmas when I need to renew though. I would expect Game Center to be a pro option only. but yeah it would be nice to see some more pro options. At least I get a year to see if iAds can pay for the Pro price. not likely of course unless you get a big hit but I guess we can always dream

    IF I was GS,
I would make the start screen a FIXED template that gives the top 75% to the developer(s) and the rest (25% fodder) I would hard code as a "Made with Game Salad" logo!
This way, commercial customers can see their brand while the game or app loads BUT, that colourful irresistible salad bowl also gets prime display.
Even 66% customer, 34% GS would be acceptable but somewhere in there lies the success and happiness and acceptance for me.

its just a pain to give 500$ for only link url and iads. But i still like pro. If they make it CUSTOM splash screen they will make a lot of $$$ GUARANTEED!

    While we are talking money,
it is a fact that many or most of us make about $100 (plus/minus 99) with our games or apps? So charging $500 right off the top is a lot considering that some very well made games that have lately surfaced, struggled to generate enough revenue to pay for the $500 license plus the time the individual has put in to make it.

Basically, if my app can not earn a multiple of 500, then paying 500 is a luxury in this economy.

    Maybe i am wrong?

P.S. I can live with the splash screen because i have no other option unless i want to learn to code.

Well the price is reasonable ,

Before pro used to be 2000$ and alot of the pros back then got ripped off because the only reason they paid 2000$ was to get the splash and the Express wich now is the free version was 100$

So price is good , but not allowing pro's no splash screen then that's just meehhhhh :)

I'm with you on some people got ripped off. But the fact is there splash screen is now a video so unless they work something into the engine that creates a video to include the dev's splash its just not gonna happen. the only thing I see happening is offer an extra $2000 a year option and you send them a splash video meeting their requirements and they load it onto their server and it loads to your apps when you publish. They dropped their price to $499 to draw more people in. if more people don't see the GS name it wont be as effective. They are marketing directly at those who have no idea about programing games and have never even considered it. For instance I would have known nothing about GS had I never downloaded Doodle Destroy. I was at the time looking into what it took to develop games but had come to the conclusion I needed a mac and how to write code. I had or knew nether. so the splash screen brought me here and now I have a game on the app store.

I agree but there is one way I would think GS can do it

    The default.png is put white

They could let pro's do a custom default png.

So when the app starts it will be ours and after they see our splash it goes to gamesalad video

    Or

They could have the option to have video or not to have video and then pro's can use custom splash with no video

    Besides
I understand but there are so many developers using the free, and the free will always have the original GS splash

But when paying around like 499 (I paid 99) then it can be quite difficult when there's only two new behaviours
  • tenrdrmertenrdrmer Member, Sous Chef, Senior Sous-Chef Posts: 9,934
Oh I totally agree more behaviors and options for pro need to be added. I bought Pro this morning for $99 cant pass that up. but like I said next christmas will 499 still be worth the two behaviors maybe maybe not but at least we have a cheap year to find out. And hopefully in the process we get game center and in app purchases and it will all be worth it then and you wont care to much about the splash screen. besides on my iphone 4 that white screen before the video everyone keeps griping about is only there for like 1/4 of a second my splash screen that plays after the video take 2 seconds to fade out and that goes fast.I just don't see it being an option they will give back. Now that doesnt mean I will silently hope and jump on it if they ever do.

I too will probably not purchase pro next year

Because of the lack of options ,

If they include at least 5 new behaviours and also some ability of splash I would definitely buy it for 499$

At the very top it states that more features are coming , I cant wait !!! :)

The splash screen is a video. Cant it be changed?
You just need to change to zip the generated app file. So you'll be able to find the video file...

@sabaterwb, no if you change the video file in there the .app file will be corrupt saying that unauthorized modifications were made or something like that

Custom splash is not coming back, and code monkey told me that directly. But there will be a ton more features for pro members coming up, and that's what lead me to upgrade. Also if you absolutely need custom splash in your game, like if it's for a big client then they may make the exception and put in a custom splash for you
  • tenrdrmertenrdrmer Member, Sous Chef, Senior Sous-Chef Posts: 9,934
Yep dont mess with the video in the .app file itunes wont let you install it. But I would bet they don't add many more feature to free memberships. Pause, gamecenter will probably be pro only, maybe even some better physics and collision types. My guess is at this point they are happy with what can be done with the free memberships and now they need to really separate what can be done with pro.

I totally agree with both of you
